Queue to view the Queens coffin.

Nothing wrong with dark humour, plenty wrong with rape humour.

Honestly can't tell now if you're apologising or doubling down. And for clarity, it was an appalling comparison to make.
The thing is who decides on what is acceptable or unacceptable when it comes to 'dark humour?' Your remark about attaching the Queen to the back of the Red Arrows and touring the country may also be seen as disrespectful and offensive by some. Not wanting to cause an argument on here but I immediately apologised for any offence taken, but you do not express the same remorse for your comments which may also have been offensive to some. If anything you have further compounded any offence taken by stating people lack imagination.

how can anything be so offended by something so lame its absolutely pathetic.

The thing is people are being offended, and yet the same ones being offended are engaging in the same 'dark humour' That is my point. Nobody has a monopoly on being offended and nobody can really decide what is acceptable or not, because it is all 'tongue in cheek'

In what way is Beckham standing in a queue for 12 hours, dressed in a low profile way with a hat pulled down, to pay his respects to a monarch he must have personally met multiple times, all about him?

Is the guy not allowed to pay his respects? I can’t think of him doing anything less ‘all about him’.
I take your point, yes.

It's a reasonable comparison. I'd say mine was absurdist rather than dark humour, but open to others interpretation.

And given that you edited your post to remove the aspect that I objected to still makes me wonder where you're coming from.

Mine was exactly the same as yours, and open to interpretation. It was an impulsive attempt to use 'dark humour' It may have made some smile but clearly not others. I edited it because you and one other had taken offence. I apologised also. Neither of these you have done with your remark.

That is why I asked the question who decides what is acceptable or not when it comes to humour? Personally, I would never make jokes about the disabled, children in particular, but I am sure others would, people like Frankie Boyle.

In my profession dark humour was used often on the wards as a way of coping with some very stressful situations. I have been assaulted, I have seen people cut their wrists in front of me, and i've gone home wearing a red shirt that was white when I started the shift.

Those are just a couple of examples in a 40 year career. We coped in the staff room by joking and trying to 'de sensitise' what we had experienced. That was our coping strategy. Just like the soldiers in wars. Enjoy the rest of your day and UTB.

That's fair enough and I'm not looking for an argument. Not apologising for my joke either because I don't feel I need to, if people disagree, that's fair enough.

But I'm still not letting "appearance of David Beckham worse than sexual assault" being described as "dark humour", "something that made some smile" or anything else. Good on you for removing that.

And agreed, UTFB.

Without being pedantic I didn't say 'exactly, word for word' that the 'appearance of David Beckham was worse than sexual assault' that was your own interpretation. I implied that his arrival would depress an already depressing situation following the sexual assault incident and 24 hour queues. Time to move on I think.

Glad we've settled that.

Now, David Beckham... what's wrong with him? Lovely bloke, you wanna shake your head dissing him.

I agree I love Becks. His injury time kick against Greece, I think it was, put us through to the finals was out of this world. It was a clumsy joke, some would disagree, but magnanimously I apologised anyway for it. He will rank as one of our all time greatest players.

The fact that Beckham (as Abel says) joined the queue for me was a very genuine gesture - no attempt to pull a fast one like other "vip's" have done.
Agree.
It’s all just a distraction away from what’s really important in our lives but the English prefers distraction, smoke & mirrors, look 👉 there….not here tactics which waste our existence rather than support and enhance it….unfortunately

Bread and circuses. Except there's no bread.
