Dale Stephen’s training with us

Was a good player but hard to know now as he hasn't played barely any football the last two years, with our midfield situation I wouldn't be against getting him, obviously they can have a look at him in training and would be smart to sign another short contract like Watmore and Luongo so he'd have a chance to prove himself with minimum risk from our point of view.

When I saw he was a free agent I was a little surprised. I think he’s got the experience and relevant gritty streak in him to do a job for us, (bench) if he can get match fit. I like that we are sensibly looking at what’s available to fill a midfield gap or two.

Always a very good champo CDM, but not good enough for prem. Getting on a bit now mind and barely played for 2 seasons. If he's still fit and motivated he would offer a decent option. If we sign him then it ,eans Howson, Luongo and Stephens are all capable of playing that CDM slot, and Howson and Luongo can also play as an 8

No harm having a look.

14 games in 2 years isn't great, but plenty of Premier League experience before then.

I suppose at the minute we're looking at short term 6/10 type players who can come in and fill in those gaps in midfield without letting anyone down.

I doubt he or Luongo are going to set the league alight, but if they can do a job till the window opens and keep us solid while key players like Giles and Jones do their thing, then good enough at this point.

It's not like we're looking for goalscorers or creative sparks. Just need them to graft, be tactically disciplined and good enough to recycle possession and keep the ball moving.

Always a chance they might surprise us too.

We have the luxury of being able to recruit cover players now as we know our squad does have some depth.

Esp with luongo on board.

i suppose we are taking a chance with Mowatt , stephens and Luongo even if one of these 3 returns to the form of a couple of years ago then will we have a very useful player on hands, if all 3 come good then we have a very solid experienced engine room with howson, my only concern is pace and legs. Having said that you look at kroos and modric for madrid they dont have much pace these days and they seem to be doing alright.

Decent signing if we go ahead. There was always a debate in our promotion season (and possibly the season before) who the best midfielder in the league was - Clayton or Stephens.
