Kids football cancelled

Look through my posting history and you'll see that despite my own feelings for the monarchy, I've avoided posting because I appreciate the feeling of the nation and why they may be upset at this time. Just common sense to me tbf.

Can appreciate the power of pausing all professional football and the need for the FA to be seen to be supporting that given the president of the organisation is William. Its just a money game really. Fair enough

Cancelling my kids football though, is just 100% fcuking stupid. It benefits, nobody. Pretty pathetic regardless of your allegiances. Let's stop thousands of children from exercising because somebody we don't know, passed away.

Can anybody genuinely support this?
We may differ on our feelings about the monarchy, everyone has their opinions, but agree with you 100%.
Couldn't agree more. Still can't get my head around the thought process that came up with this idea
It's the FA and the EFL, there is no thought process.

So all this hand wringing may serve a purpose of venting frustration but what are you going to do about it other than have a moan on here? May I suggest you write to your local FA and complain. Again pointless as its happened now but at least you can make the powers that be,who came up with this decision, to reflect and think and hopefully feel some regret.

Or you could just tweet them under there announcement like two thousand others have.

Already done. Their hands were tied by the National FA who say they were under guidance

It's madness....

We can go to work / school / cinemas / theaters / shopping and gym's.

We can basically do anything as 'normal' other than attend a sporting event. I find this frankly ridiculous.

How can they tell us to take a weekend to grieve? I attended a Boro match with my mum and dad 4 days after her mam (my gran) passed away. It's what my mum needed.
Exactly, my mum died when i was 11, on a Friday and I remember going to my footy training on the Saturday and match on the Sunday. I just wanted to be out the house and feel "normal" for a few hours and forget everything going on.

Pretty sure there will be people who are struggling who would give anything to go to a match or something else as a distraction.

They knew people wouldn’t be happy when weighing up the decision. They aren’t stupid. They just think pandering to Royalty will serve them better in the future than the people that are directly affected by the decision.

If they really need to gauge the reaction then social media is probably the place for them to look but they won’t be interested.

Just read this re. Football cancellations. _Concern that tributes to the Queen may not have been universally respected, and the potential for global embarrassment if fans were disrespectful, was a factor in the decision to call off all football in the U.K. this weekend.

Thats the pro game - not kids football

As far as I know when George VI died - all football went ahead (although Rugby was cancelled onm the Saturday) . He was on throne over 15 years and brought us through WW2.

Personally I am OK with the weekend professional games being postponed - to me that an enormous sign of respect.

The Queen deserves a good mark of respect from adults for her 70 years of duty, but having a complete shut down of junior football is different to me than professional/semi-professional football.

I do understand that to an extent. Celtic and Liverpool would no doubt have made their feelings towards the monarchy heard during any minutes silence.

Kids football cancelled = STUPID

Bollox on both counts.

I'm as staunch a republican as you can get, I would have kept my mouth shut as I have for every minutes silence I've ever attended.

still don't get how not going to football is a mark of respect. Surely going to football and showing respect is a sign of respect. Not having football is an abscence of opportunity to show respect. What will people do instead, well a good number will go get hammered, some will vomit, some will fight, and some will have a one night stand to show their respect

Can't see a minutes silence being well observed when kids football returns. They are all that annoyed they'll probably ignore it. Think this has all had the complete opposite effect they were going for.

The mourn police will be all over it to make sure it happens.

I am absolutely sure you would Mart, but sadly I'm not sure that would be the case at Liverpool where they boo the national anthem, or at Celtic. It would only have taken one bad reaction to have created a storm. The pro schedule should have been postponed.
I certainly feel for all those who have sunk good money into following their team this weekend. There will be a lot of money lost.

As for the kids, I don't see why it would have been dis-respectful to play this weekend. If there is "national mourning" until the state funeral, but they play next weekend, I'm not sure of the distinction. I think on balance it was fine for them to play.

On a very separate note it is pretty sad if the only alternative for kids who are missing a football match, is to go onto screens.

If you asked me a week ago I was pro monarchy. I thought they did more good than bad for the country. But after the "know your place' and "do as we tell you' stuff on here and tv over the last week, I can clearly see they are a disaster for their subjects in this country.
Time for them to go. Time for a referendum
