TWO FOR ONE - KIERAN SCOTT

And apart from replacing tav, every other one is a massive upgrade in my eyes, quality over quantity 👍🏻👍🏻
100% I think the only player that could have replaced Tavernier would have been Callum O’Hare. One would hope that upgrading the squad in it’s entirety would reduce our reliance on a player like Tavernier. We played him in quite a few positions last season.. all of which we look to have covered.

January will be tricky potentially with big positions to fill in order to compete in the playoffs..

Considering Hall got a number of negative comments on here from his time at the Boro i've not seen Lenihn looking any better really

Rotherham are doing ok so far this season, not to sure how much game time he's getting, but good luck to the lad
Lenihan no better than Hall? Cant agree with that. Lenihan (and Clarke) are still settling. I have a feeling they will become important players

It's not quite accurate though is it?

It's not like all the players you have as leaving were here at the same time.

Uche, Connolly and Balogan for example weren't here at the same time. 2 came in and Uche went out on loan.
I think there's other examples with the young players, certainly Coulson, though I lose track of the other players we had out on loan

And Fisher is as much here this year as he was last.
It’s fairly accurate.. paying money for players last season.. where this season not so much.

Fisher has been changed out for Spence.. schoolboy error.

I hope they both do zoo, I can only say it as I see it
Clarke, I have been very impressed with, up to the Sunderland game, but found his 1st half performance on monday poor, he lost the ball twice in very dangerous areas, which could have resulted in us conceding both times & a needless booking too

I always had it in my head the spence money covers Sumer signings . So a player we got for free and surplus to requirements has laid the foundations down for a potential promotion push

Yeah.. it feels more like we don’t talk about ‘the Spence money’ and we go back to one in one out.

We are a not a big fish anymore we are a tiddler. We have brought in quality but as newy illustrates the squad is far smaller. The club have massively dropped the ball in terms of midfielders

I'm talking about the town of Middlesbrough and they don't come much bigger than Gibson's standing to the town.

Gibbo saved us in 86 and has pumped millions and millions into his hometown club over decades, and he continues to bankroll us....give your head a shake 😕
Gibson didn't save us in 86 at all. Henderson, Fordy and Moskowitz did so very much more.
He got the club for £1m by 93. By 99 he had injected zero equity and loaned the club £6m. The Club was worth -£8m.

He was magnificent until 2006, full of energy, ambition, vision and drive.
The Club has fared badly since then and in 2021 was worth MINUS £110m.
He makes the decisions and is responsible for the consequences (club status, losses and value)

The facts are he has put £63m into the club through GON in equity. Without that in 2012 and 2014 the club would have folded. We should be grateful for that, together with his leadership to 2006.

His Company was owed £120m in 2021, it will be higher now. He can't call in the loans without closing the club.
We are stuck with him and he is stuck with us.
Sadly his decisions have repeatedly come unstuck since 2006.

He is one of the people I most admire for the 93-06 version of himself.
The 2006-2022 version not so.

I don’t the the fans shared that same vision.. has someone got the UEFA cup home attendances. The decision to take on Gordon Strachan was a disastrous one and then Garry Monk with the transfer business we did over that period.

We should have stuck with Southgate ie we were not loyal enough.. and the same could be said with Karanka. Although we were perhaps too loyal not upgrading for the premier league. On both occasions Nigel Pearson pups have been the answer.

We’ve made mistakes.. not as many as other clubs and we have paid the price.. again not to the same extent of other clubs.

We are in good shape at the moment, the best shape you could expect in the circumstances.

I’d invite anyone even using the benefit of hindsight and without competition for players to vastly improve the incomings we’ve had this summer.. to give it a go!

We've done the summer window thing to death really.
Giles and Muniz are excellent additions. Roberts also looks really solid.
The others provide decent cover. Smith, Lenihan. Forss, Hoppe, Mowatt.

But we are missing 3 quality players - and for the first time in ages had the means to acquire them due to the sales of Spence and Tavernier. We had a long time to do it and didn't. I bet that is pretty much how Wilder sees it too.

This season is a little bit different from any other, the World Cup always stirs up interest in transfers from unknown players, with the World Cup being mid season this year I think a few quid left over in the annual budget will do us great in the January transfer window

I think Massimo Luongo will be as good if not better than anyone we could have brought in at defensive midfield.

Attacking midfield has been pretty quiet suggesting that Joe Gibson could be given a chance? (he was on the fringes of the team last season)
The likes of Lukas Rupp & Tom Rogic are missing in action the former off with a shaolin monk and the later's agent not taking calls with talk of retirement?!?!
(Maybe Riley & Massimo can slide into his DM's)

The signing of a striker has been a bit of a weird one, no way do we compete on Larsen with £10m and a six year deal in La Liga, Sam Surridge in on loan when we were looking to bring in Frank Onyeka in on loan also.. very strange!

That last ditch attempt to sign Alberth Elis for £6m with a £1m bonus - looks like another big fish.. nothing we could replicate in the free agent market. Even Wolves struggled to bring in Diego Costa apparently!!

I absolutely love your enthusiasm and positivity newy.
I've no real idea about Luongo, or Rupp and Rogic in recent times. Of course you can get good out of contract players -Duncan has been exceptional and Taylor, Peltier and Bamba helped out very well last year.
But having taken frees and loans in the main this summer, I would have liked to see investment in quality.
(Costa at Wolves was work permit related nowt else)
