Moving back to Teesside

We moved out of Marton because of the ferrel youth of Marton, coulby, nunthorpe and Marton manor. You couldn't walk in the park without getting verbally abused.( My old close voted one of the top 10 in boro) had a higher crime rate than my current North Yorkshire village. Sorry its national , not just boro, most (northern towns) are falling apart socially.

Its toally about local perception, some areas people like, other dont. I grew up in Hemlington (the "posh" bit), linthorpe, acklam and marton and for me marton winds hands down. Admittedly I live in a small cul-de-sac with very little traffic and drives big enough so there are no cars parked all over the streets but I love it there. 2 mins to lots of amenities like gym, tesco etc and I can be in work at billingham in 12 mins and wife can be at Wilton in less. Ive never ever in 14 years had any trouble in my street or walking to the shops etc and I would pick it every time over Acklam or Linthorpe but thats because personally I want to be more away from the town and the general busyness and closer to be able to get out on the hills etc. In my naïve simplistic mind, the areas get better the more you move away from the town............

For value and nice surroundings Guisborough is a consideration. You can live on an estate with its own swimming pool. Sainsbury's Local, decent pub. two primary schools, church, walk to Roseberry T, Forest walks. There was a 3 bed bungalow for £159k close by. The high street is not what it was and there are some problem areas, but it's still safe.

When I moved last year we targeted Guisborough and wanted to move there for the closeness to the countryside and coast (Saltburn in 10 mins and Whitby in 30 mins as well as all the Roseberry Topping and Guisborough Forest walks).

Sadly our timing was probably off as demand outstripped supply and we continually missed out on properties often at the last minute. New ones just weren't coming up and the new builds decided to take advantage of the booming housing market by increasing prices for the house size we needed beyond our budget.

We ended up staying in IB but in a bigger property, still quite happy with our choice as IB is a fantastic place to raise a young family with all the aforementioned amenities. However we researched Guisborough and it looked great too and is a good suggestion.

The area you choose are a good as the people who live there. I moved back in 2017 to the posh end of Hembo. We have great neighbours who look out each other. We have street parties around every 3 month and we get along with each other. The wives have a social media group to chat if they need owt. The wife is from Nottingham and loves the area. It's what you make it.

Ingleby again!!

Got to love the Gazette comments from the usual suspects sat in their bedsits dreaming of being able to afford a house there.

"Chavelby Barwick twinned with Hemlington and Hardwick"

"Hardwicks not as bad as Ingleby.......lol"

"Ingleby barwick , makes grove hill look like Knightsbridge, proper chav location"

"Irritable Bowelwick. Full of Sh#@ehawks"

:sneaky:

I am moving back to the area and was hoping to get some feedback on here regarding places to avoid moving to. I lived for a lot of years in the Eaglescliffe area and always found it ok there. Low crime and anti social behaviour but there is very little available here to buy in my pricerange.
I have been looking in the Marton area around the shops on stokesley road and acklam around acklam hall. Any views on these areas or any other recommended areas would be appreciated.
Many Happy Returns M !

We live on one of the side roads on a side roads off Gunnergate lane. Very quiet and mainly bungalows with retired people. We've not had any issue in the last 16 years here. Sometimes see the odd scroat walking down the road but that is all. Traffic can be an issue once you go up Gunnergate to the Marton shop junction... but then that whole stretch down beyond the park is a fúcking joke now, since they put the new houses and hospital staff parking on Ladgate Lane. I hardly ever need to go down that way in "rush" hour but when I do it is a nightmare.

are you Martin Branthwaite?

Lived in Coulby Newham, Linthorpe, Marton and Thorntree in the last few years. Linthorpe was my favourite but has definitely gone downhill. Depends what your priorities are, but I'd probably suggest Nunthorpe/Stokesley/Saltburn around here.

Personally leaving Boro in the next couple of months as looking for somewhere with more going on, the town centre has died somewhat in recent years. Will definitely miss it though, especially the walks around Roseberry and the coast.

Lived in Middlesbrough when I was a student and on a “new” estate in Redcar when I lived up there in the 90s. If I ever move back I’ll move back to Saltburn. Although I did like Sedgefield when I stayed overnight there for racing last year.
