Joe Lumley

Thing I've found with Lumley is that he's an "ok" keeper .. he just has these god-awful moments in him .. he could play next week and have a blinder (like last week apparently) .. he could even have a blinder this half .. But he has these lapses of concentration and, at times, terrible decsion making and he ends up doing the things we see here.

Not sure all QPR fans did warn us about him to be honest. Don't get me wrong, he was shocking for us. But some of their fans, at the time he signed, thought he was decent, but they just had better.

Similar to Bettinelli (didn't he make an England squad at one point?) we seemed to pick him up at exactly the wrong time. Previously decent to good, but on a seemingly downward trajectory. Can't see him coming back from it despite being relatively young.

Strange position goalkeeper. Theoretically you can play at a top level well into your 30s. But there's loads of examples of keepers just losing form and dropping a level in their 20s. Joe Hart, Paul Robinson, Chris Kirkland, Jack Butland being high profile examples.

Be a good article for the athletic or a podcast for Ben Foster as to why it happens.
I suppose a the elite level of sport then your level only needs to drop a fraction and you are suddenly crap.

Dele Alli is a good example of an outfield player it's happened to, maybe David Bentley as well a few years ago, probably loads more I just can't think of.

To us the gap between say EPL and league 1 seems vast but actually it probably isn't on an individual player level.

He was always suspect at his near post. The one he let in at home to qpr was soft. Near post shot saving should be easiest for a keeper. Yet he still letting them in, obvs not improved

The 4th one I mean his kamikaze run into no man’s land.

That’s not poor keeping that’s arrogance.

He's a genuinely
I hope he’s okay after this, he may be getting loads of money doing a job he loves but he is going to get loads of negativity.

I doubt any of us know what it must be like to be a pro footballer when it all goes horribly wrong.
He's a genuinely nice lad as well having met him. I do hope he's OK but I'm glad he's not between the sticks for us

What have poor Reading done to deserve that? would be funny if it was Sunderland but they've been duped like we were. Lumley is not really Championship quality but if he can get good money good luck to the guy.

Rotherham, (well done Joe!) Huddersfield, Ipswich, Derby, Sheff wed and Portsmouth! What's not to like!

Like watching a highlight reel of his season with us but condensed into 90 mins. He doesn’t have it between the ears to be a top level goalkeeper

TBH I was going to post a link to the 'through the legs' goal... But having seen 3 other howlers.. he's obviously got bigger issues.. didn't Southgate once call him into the England squad?
