Brittney Griner - 9 years

Stoning for the crime of adultery is legal in a handful of muslim countries, so by your measure that's fine too?
Yawn…

I never said it was right. Taking any form of illegal drug into any county is never going to end well is it ?

The moral of the story surely is before going to work in another country make sure you read the do’s and don’ts.

I remember so well working in Saudi where many expats made their own booze and when they got caught and thrown in jail they’d complain that their human rights had been denied.

I’m sure Griner will enjoy her new surroundings and Russian jail food. Putin apparently has the final call on whether or not she should be exchanged but I can’t see it happening anytime soon.

Yes it’s illegal, but 9 years in a penal colony for less than a gram of cannabis oil is way over excessive by any count.

My uncle worked over there for a bit as a private aircraft engineer. They used to brew their own stuff in the compound but it never left the site.

I wonder if others convicted of similar offences are given comparable sentences in Russia, or if there is an element of political motivation in it, given the high profile nature of the case?

I genuinely have no idea if this is considered a typical sentence for the offence in Russia.

It wasn’t really a story here but was missive news in the US.

It does show one thing though that despite all the Madness there is still some sort of channels of communication open between Washington and Moscow however diminished.
