Matthew Hoppe

I am certain we have asked, The lack of concrete reporting suggests we haven’t tested their resolve or the players. He has allegedly said he prefers a PL move, understandably. Time changes things. Incomings may change the players thoughts if no PL team comes in. As Indeedido rightly states nobody knows who that alleged £20M player was, but the talk from Besiktas would suggest it wasn’t Gyokeres.
Personally I think it is far better for a player to establish himself as a prem player through gaining promotion and retaining his position than moving to a prem club as they often just sit on the bench due to lack of prem experience.

If he's £12 million and £35k a week and Riis is £6 million and £18k a week, is Gyokeres the 'best' for the club though?

He's good, but is it worth committing to that much? Would he be twice as good as Riis would for us?
Come on man, you know it's not remotely linear like that.
Will Gyokeres far more likely fire us up?
Would he make the difference?
Can we afford him?
YES.

I would be a bit surprised if a Premier Club made a big bid for Gyokeres - he does not look good enough for the Premier at present.

How many regular Championship strikers have moved up in recent years?

To jump from a £1m West Ham second teamer to say £15m player in 12 months is some quick climb.

I understand your point, however I was talking purely in terms of player and fit. I doubt Riis is available for that much less than Gyokeres in truth. I would hope we have enquired there too to be fair. I personally think Gyokeres is slightly better than Riis for our system. If Riis were available at the money you mentioned he’d be in a different teams shirt already. Gyokeres is a strong striker harries and presses from the front his style of play would be the best fit for me in a two, however, I would take Riis if the deal was significantly more achievable allowing more to be spent elsewhere.

I thought on Saturday Wilder said we nearly had two or three in, just waiting on their clubs?

Yeah I agree, thats why I think Tav may rue the day (footballing wise, not financially, especially if he ends up used as a wing back) as it is entirely feasible Bournemouth may struggle and be relegated as we could feasibly go up. There may be clauses where we get him back mind, who knows.

I digress, It would be similar for Gyokeres, Fulham were the only PL team linked (i think). He would be behind Mitrovic there you’d imagine, it may be Gyokeres game time could be limited if Mitrovic fired this time round. He would be a gamble for a PL team for sure at the price people seem to think Coventry want. I genuinely do think he could be sold for less nearer the window shutting, with creative add ons / sell on %. I’d be amazed if Coventry weren’t looking at replacements and what they could achieve with wheeling and dealing should they be willing to listen to reasonable offers. Then again all clubs will probably do so as a matter of course regarding sought after players.

Gyokeres is exactly the striker we need I think they’d snap our hands off for £8M plus say £3M in promotion and goals based add ons. He’d be worth that and maybe a tad more. He would be ideal for our style pressing from the front.
He’s a risk and not worth that money. He’s had a good season he’s not an established striker

Gizza go on yerr crystal ball mista
Scored an absolute pearler on Sunday and scored his first senior internationals goals this year.

I’ve wondered whether it’s wise to pay a huge fee for someone on the back one very good season but factor in the international experience as well, the age, the season-on-season improvement he’s made since 17/18 years old, AND the fact he seems to be able to make chances for himself out of nothing, you’d have to say he’s exactly what this team needs.

He looks like a very good player/prospect TBF.

Hoppe has been stated at around a little over £3Million. He has played a handful of games for a well adrift bottom of the league Bundesliga team an only 5 in La Liga for his current team who have seemingly decided they want their money back. Doesn’t bode well.

Every player is a risk in some way, Gyokeres is a greater financial investment but has delivered in this league, his qualities are there to see. Hoppe hasn’t delivered in any league yet and we have no idea how he will cope against the relentless battle that is the Championship. Neither of us know if Coventry will sell, or indeed he will come, but I do feel his expectations will be more realistic of how he can get to the PL with us and Coventry may well take a lower offer of a huge % profit after 1 season, as the window draws nearer. Like on everything, time will tell and as Keith Lamb once said, we will have the team the owner can afford. I just hope it meets with the best manager we have had in a while‘s approval.

Gyökeres, has had one good season, his record before was pretty 💩

Reading between the lines in the espn article game time seems to be the big issue as he needs game time to ensure he’s in the US squad for Qatar.

According to some on here apparently we need to sign a striker who has scored at least 20 goals a season for the last 3 seasons at championship level or equivalent and we can’t pay more than £1 million for him. Wages about ten bob a week with 2 Bazooka Joe wrappers thrown in as a sweetner for good measure.
Shouldn’t be too hard.
Come on Scotty get your finger out.
Oh and we want 3 or possibly 4 of them if you don’t mind.

We'd all like us to sign strikers who are young, proven and cheap.

We can probably get 2 of those 3 things (but some of the strikers we bring in will need to be cheap).

That said, even 3 season scoring goals for a different club doesn't guarantee they'll perform for us.
