Congrats to the Lionesses ...

I've seen plenty of women's football before to form my opinion of the quality of their game. How is my opinion on it wrong?

This is what gets people's back up about the whole thing. "Like it! And if you don't like it, I'm going to call you out for being wrong and out of order!"
Calling you out for expressing an opinion on a tournament you chose not to watch. So all this watching it before demonstrates an opinion that is out of date- perhaps that is what you were looking to achieve?

If you were watching the game through the prism of “it’s not as good as men’s football” then you will have missed what the rest of us saw, i.e. a team that, despite being outplayed for large parts of the game, had the strength, determination and skill to finally win it. They deserve nothing but praise.

I don't have to keep going back to something I'm not interested in to check if I am now interested in it! 😂 I'm not the biggest Tom Cruise fan but I don't keep paying to go to the cinema to watch his movies.. just incase I suddenly love him.

Not being bothered about watching women's football is OK. Not enjoying watching women's football is OK.

For those that do, great. There's a plethora of opportunities to do so, certainly now with the increased popularity of the game across main stream broadcasting, but not everyone has to. I wish the England women's team well and congratulate them on their achievement. But will I be glued to the next WSL game? No.

I don’t even believe they were outplayed for “large parts” off the game either. Yes England were at times under the cosh particularly in the last 20 mins but England started the first 25 mins on the front foot the better side and certainly finished the stronger.

I dont think many will disagree with you on that bit.

What people will disagree with you on is your outdated (and incorrect) statements around the lack of skill, technique etc which appears to be based on some out dated viewing of women's football.

How is it an incorrect statement? There it is again. "Like it or you're wrong".

My opinion is that it lacks all those things I mentioned.. which is why I don't really enjoy their game. Which is why I don't watch it.

Your opinion is that is does satisfy your interest. So watch and enjoy it. Nobody is saying you can't.

Your, or mine, opinion on it isn't incorrect.

Can’t tell him that - he can’t see it. Here’s an analogy- you went to a restaurant, had a bad meal and that formed your opinion. The restaurant changes hands- new management etc but you wouldn’t go because your out dated opinion still stands.

Don’t waste time replying to him. His loss.

This isn't about whether you like it or not (that's entirely up to you), but about you making factually incorrect statements about the quality of the game, despite admitting you've not watched a minute of the tournament.

I was at the England vs Canada game at the Riverside with work earlier this year. I saw enough there, on top of what I'd already seen previously, to base my opinion on the quality of the women's game, and to judge my levels of enjoyment in watching it.

WilderBall clearly isn't a fan. It's his opinion, why is he being ridiculed for it?

The level of sanctimony on this site sometimes is too much to stomach.

Some people enjoy women's football, some don't. It's not at the same level as the men's game but that's okay, it can still be enjoyed. In my view it shouldn't be pushed or compared, because it's competed at a different standard.

Rubbish. How can your views be taken seriously when you never watched a minute of the tournament? Ridiculous to say otherwise . That is what he has been challenged on. Not sanctimonious- just applying logic

Unfortunately, the board is littered with people with an "I'm right, you're wrong and I'm going to try and belittle you and your opinion" attitude.

I don't think it is wrong to say that the quality is quite low. It is still an immature sport, it has come on a lot in recent years and I'm sure things will continue to improve but there is still a noticeable step down in quality from watching the top level of the men's game.

Just a few examples:
> The amount of scrambles in the box is very reminiscent of watching lower league football. In the PL you might see one on occasion but there were 7 or 8 last night and that is a sign that players aren't calm, composed and technically competent enough to make a clearance or to move the ball to safety.

> Balls over the top to open spaces. Not sure if this is particularly a low quality issue or just the fact that physically they can cover less space on a pitch defensively. It almost seems like the pitch is too big so there is loads more space and time for players. Much easier to play a ball into space to run onto without having to be super accurate etc. This reminds me of the team i played for at uni with a couple of quick strikers and the super basic tactic of hoof over the top. The top teams in the men's game don't struggle against this tactic. Players like Van Dijk, Rudiger, Walker etc just mop those up no problem.

> Set pieces. Accuracy of delivery into the box is decent but they tend to be quite floaty so should be easy to defend. If keepers weren't so small they would come and collect the ball easily every time but keepers are still a long way from being a good standard. That is mostly down to size. Related note but you see far too many shots that have decent accuracy but very low power head into the top corner because the keeper just can't physically get there.

It can still be entertaining to watch and in no way would I belittle the achievements of the team. They are on an equal footing with all of the other teams in the tournament. They deserved their win and it is a great achievement. Not everyone has to be interested though.

I think the biggest improvement the could make to the women's game is to just make everything slightly smaller. Slightly smaller pitches and slightly smaller goals and even the ball. Would eliminate most of the things I have mentioned above.

Perhaps read posts as a collective and not in isolation.

The "it's not the same as the men's game" was paraphrasing WilderBalls views, to which I gave my opinion that "it's okay, it can still be enjoyed".

I then gave "my view" that it shouldn't be compared.

Why am I having to analyse my post and spell it out to you? Grow up and stop trying to push people's buttons.

Of course it was more than the men’s as the stadium was only partially open due to to covid so it’s a moot point.

Due to the increased segregation for the Men's final, if covid wasn't a factor, the women final would still likely have been higher.
