Boy in a dress, a nice up lifting story

He looks s happy.
Love it that he is confident enough to do it and that his family are so supportive of his choices.

It’s a great story thank you for posting it, life is so much easier now for LGBT kids to be themselves. I could say more but I won’t.
I'm not so sure about that Aet. Transphobia seems to be on the rise and getting worse to me. And homophobia and racism seem to be becoming more prevalent too. We're going backwards as a society and that isn't a good thing. I hope that you're doing OK. All the best to you.

I think I'm more in agreement with Aet. My godson's had a close friend since he was about 7 (he's now 22) and all of the group were gobsmacked when I asked, thinking I was being Mr liberal understanding, if everyone was ok when he came out. They couldn't get their heads around "having to come out" They took the attitude that everyone knew he was gay and always had. I was very proud to discover that the world had moved on beyond my experience and the young people were driving it. I was very happy to feel old and out of date.

I’m ok Bumface. It’s one day at a time at the minute.
You are right about transphobia. The trans lot are suffering the same backlash now that the gays and lesbians suffered 40 years ago if you ask me. It’s all through ignorance and fear.

I can only speak from my own experiences.

I might write it all down like I did last week. Therapeutic. Not today though.

The world has moved on. Spot on mate!

There is a wonderful drama called Heartstopper on Netflix at the minute. It will only mean something to LGBT audiences and young adults so I’m not recommending it to readers of this board, but it’s a love story about two teenage boys who meet at school and fall in love. And it’s just so bloody normal!!! If only I’d had something like that when I was young.

We can all only speak from our own experiences and of course I respect yours. It seems to me that trans people are seen as one of the few minority groups that it's still OK to have a go at just for being who they are. Travellers are the same. People who would never think of themselves as racist or homophobic or anything-phobic will still make transphobic comments or stereotype travellers as all being a bunch of thieves.

I don't know mate. I'm no expert myself but I do know gay and trans people who think that things got better for them for a while and now that's all gone in to reverse. It doesn't help when we've had a racist, homophobic oaf running the country for years.

Glad to hear that you're just about doing OK. Look after yourself mate.

I was thinking more of what it’s like for youngsters to be honest mate.

I mean, I didn’t come out to anyone until I was at University (and I started Uni late at the age of 21). I wasn’t bullied at school but I was picked on and I do remember one girl who lived round the corner who was verbally and physically horrible towards me. And it was poof, queer, faggot all those words. I’m sure it still goes on but youngsters seem so more accepting these days.

I could go on but won’t. Maybe another night.

You're probably right about the youngsters mate. They don't really give a crap if Johnny decides to come to school as Jenny. They just kind of shrug and accept it and it's all fine. It's some of the older dinosaurs who are still stuck in the seventies that are the problem. The world is changing around them and it upsets and confuses them. And then there's the whole feminists vs. trans thing which is all a bit nuts. And hateful people on social media bullying anyone who is different to them.

I'm sorry to hear about the abuse. You lived through it though mate. You're still here. That's the main thing. I'll shut up now and leave you in peace.

Yeh. I am right about the youngsters. See the post I wrote in reply to rkangel. They are way more accepting. I wish I could be as brave as the boy in the dress from Norfolk. Not that I would ever wear a dress thougH so it probably don’t apply.

I’ve loved the pet shop boys since I was 15. I’ve written about my love of them on here. But I still get embarrassed and defensive about telling anyone I like them, going to see them in concert etc because of those names I was called for liking them at school. It’s a silly minor thing and it shouldn’t affect my life but it lives with you. I just hope the generation growing up now have it so much better than I did.

It’s a bit of a pattern throughout history that whenever there is progression on the Left/Liberals there is pushback on the Right/Conservatives.

It’s based on irrational fear usually, which is something Conservatives are psychologically more prone to suffering from, bless them.

It’s very much three steps forward two steps back, but at least it’s a net step forward overall.
