Hayfever

The last 5 years I've hardly suffered from it and thought I was over it. But these last few days it's the worst I've ever had it, like others unable to sleep, nose running, coughing and sneezing, went to the cricket on Friday in Durham and my eyes were streaming all day
Update on my post, done a covid test last night and I tested positive - first time I've had it.

My 5 year old is also struggling with it, awful to see as naturally he is rubbing his eyes like a madman making it even worse. Dr's gave him eye drops and infant Piriton but doesnt seem to be doing much.

Spent the day at Saltburn yesterday which was a god send for both of us. About at the point of wearing goggles wherever i go.

Was exactly the same middle to end of last week, until I tested +ve for Covid (4th time!) on Friday. Do think the Pollen compounded it though but at least we got the root cause!

I'd never suffered until about 4 years ago. This year it seems to have disappeared though. Utterly bizarre.
The wife suffers horrendously though. Like, days off work bad. She had the injection on Saturday and is starting to improve dramatically.
Used to be able to get it on the NHS but alas, no more. You can get it privately for between £30 and £50. Well worth the investment if you suffer badly. Injection lasts for the year. Be aware of (potential) side effects though.

The NHS don’t offer the jab because it’s an immunosuppressant, which can leave you vulnerable to other things.

I have to say putting Vaseline up your nose works a treat, or it did for me when I played golf on Saturday.

Never had it until about 5 years ago as I got into my 40's. Last few years were brutal, this year hasn't been too bad so far. The Friday of Jubilee weekend was the worst for me, and it was manageable.

I just take the 99p boots antihistamines and they seem to keep things at bay.

I have always suffered terribly with Hayfever since I was about 16. The last few years I have mostly got on top of it by knowing and understanding what/when my hayfever starts and to begin taking medicine at the right time, increasing when it is at the peak and most importantly taking it even when I don't have symptoms. I can pretty much control the sinus issues with medicine but the eyes is another story. That is what has always affected me the worst and I can't really do much about it.

I take Beconase, (2 sprays in the morning, 1 at midday, 1 at bed), Cetirizine tabs, (1 at morning, 1 at 5ish), Opticrom Eyedrops (same as Beconase but extra drops when it gets bad).

With the eyes I get the mucus membrane becoming stringy which feels like chunks of grit in the eye. It hurts which makes me put my fingers in my eye to try and fish it out which makes it worse but when you get it out it can be instant relief. It's avoiding that situation which makes or breaks hayfever season for me. It can usually be done by not putting my fingers in my eyes to scratch/rub but it is really difficult.

It really puts a downer on the nice weather. I try to just ignore it and it is usually fine when out and about. I find it is going from one environment to another is what kicks off the worst symptoms. Evenings when you want to relax can be a chore and I end up going to bed early because having my eyes shut helps but if I go to bed with symptoms i usually wake up with my eyelids glued together from them streaming in my sleep.

Sounds awful. When mine is at its worst it feels like a really heavy cold and incredibly itchy eyes to the point you just have to rub them.... which makes it even worse to the point it's painful.

Started when I was 15 but over the last 48 years it has gradually faded so it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be. I can totally control my nasal symptoms but still get itchy eyes if things get really bad. 2 blasts of Pirinase steroid spray and a Cetirizine tablet before bed (makes me drowsy) is my routine.
Always handy to have some Piriton to hand if you're completely overwhelmed, a bit old fashioned and prepare to be rendered comatose if you only take it infrequently.:)
For a spell in the early 90s I was laid low for a day or so when I cut the grass. 'Borrowed' a dust mask from work which completely sorted the problem, absolutely brilliant. The other tip I've got for itchy eyes is that sun glasses are very effective in giving some relief.

I don't find that glasses/sunglasses help massively in reducing my symptoms but they do stop me putting my fingers in my eyes and making things worse. I also notice my glasses get filthy from the inside where the excess tears "splash" when I'm blinking.

My eyesight gets worse when my hayfever is bad as well because of all the extra liquid and I presume they become temporarily misshapen with the swelling and rubbing.
