National Rail Strike

I've seen that the average wage for a train driver is £58,000 annually? Is that so?

Also is the rumour about train drivers been given early retirement with a full pension if they are involved in three accidents true?
The vast majority of train drivers are in Aslef, this is an RMT strike.
I have had 3 fatalities and can tell you its not true. That story came from a 'comedy' film I believe. I had had colleagues that have been so badly affected they couldn't return and they either left the industry or got another post.
I hear the 3 fatalities and get a pension story a lot, and its said in a way that trivialises it. My first was over 20 years ago and I still remember it very clearly. Each one has contributed I feel to changing me as a person. I am a lot more anxious and stressed about things these days. I took early retirement recently for another reason and so happy I don't have to worry about it happening again.

I figured as much but wasn't entirely sure. I didn't meant to trivialise it if that's how it came across.
The midwife who delivered our first baby was leaving the job a week later to become a train driver.

Continue to cut experienced Safety Critical Staff and you`ll get another Potters Bar

The condition of the track is shocking at ground level and access continues to be constrained due to the Train Operators and Freight wanting more running time

Good luck to all those who are striking, not only for their rights but also our safety

I won`t be crossing any picket lines

I don’t work with TOC’s but I know the drivers get well paid.

Managers and train drivers could join the strikes across the railway, potentially setting up a complete national shutdown.

The Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA) union, whose members manage control rooms, signalling and power for train operators and Network Rail, has launched its first strike ballot, while the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (Aslef) union has called the first regional walkouts by drivers.

If a typical GP earns well in excess of £100k for not answering the phone a train driver should be at least equal to that.

Who takes the most responsibility each day?

The reason they are paid so well is probably because they are willing to protest for it.

One of the biggest problems with the NHS and pay is the fact nobody is willing to down tools and walk out. If more people demanded what they were worth perhaps it wouldn't be a race to the bottom.

We shouldn't scoff at the drivers being paid well, we should strive to push employers to pay us better or what we are worth.

Scotrail have a new offer and the Union is recommending it and are putting it to it's members (this isn't publicly announced yet) so if that's anything to go by the threats of strike are working and negotiations are taking place. I think the offer is a pretty good one but I'm not a rail worker so we'll see if it's rejected or not.

Maybe the strikes won't go ahead after all.

See my responses above I am pro the strike and it's aims.

But skwawkbox, come on. It's a Corbyn mouthpiece. Didn't it recently lose a case against a Labour MP for making stuff up, award I think near £75,000.

It's Private Eye without the intelligence or legal know how.

The rail union is doing the right things well, it doesn't need BS.

It’s not about rhw article on skwakbox. It’s about the video on skwakbox.

Yep, skwakbox is biased. But a video is a video is a video.
Don’t get too hung up on the article in this case. It’s not saying ‘a source said this’ blah blah blah. It’s a video.
The point is the video.
