Sub forums

Again I wouldn’t restrict it. I don’t see why you’d want to really.

because you get 3 posts saying “get in!” Every time there is a goal. A match thread keeps it tidy and doesn’t lush all the content off the front page every time a chance gets missed or goal goes in. Match day threads are the common way of keeping this tidy on most fan sites and makes it easier for those not at the game to follow discussion in a central place.

I'm actually all for sub-forums. When I log on, I, (like possibly many others), only read the posts on the first page. On matchdays, the first page can become overrun with match-related threads, which means that everything else becomes washed away onto the second or third page and will most likely get missed by another reader.

Not sure about that personally. One of the things I like is stumbling across stuff because it is all on one forum.

There are quite a few things I would never have got an interest or passing knowledge in were it not for seeing a thread and being curious enough to click on it. I'm not sure I'd see these things if they were cordoned off in a sub forum. Politics might be the one area, but most politics really revolves around current affairs.

Agree.
Over the years I've stumbled across some very good stuff.
And some extremely helpful stuff thanks to some very decent people on this board.

The open source feel is all part of it for me.

If you're not interested in a certain subject, well you know what to do.

I don't think there should be forums for many different topics - personally I would but as above keeping it general does help - the key thing for me is politics is probably the most divisive thing on FMTTM so I think there should at least be a political forum so that arguments don't spill into the day to day.

The threads are always circular arguments anyway.

I’m against it, politics is life, and life is poli

Not my intention - unless I am in an overwhelming minority - I think one of the reasons fmttm has lasted 20 years could well be because it is a single forum.

Completely agree with this.

I understand but still don't think that's too much of a problem. Don't mind seeing all the 'get ins'!!

I’m not bothered about separating different threads it’s good to have a but of variation. However it may be a benefit to the site if ads could be linked the relevant thread .

I do get the idea of sub-forums, they keep everything tidy, the only issue for me is that in my experience from other forums, outside of the main forum the other ones get less activity and then it seems to snowball into almost no activity. Less people view the other forums and then less people post in them etc. Probably best to keep it all in one.

I do think that keeping a match thread would be better than the 50 threads posted during a game(when the board is working). Maybe if you have something very specific you could start a new thread but you don't need to start a thread to say that Lewis Wing had a poor game, you can just post it in the match thread and by being able to quote people now it's much easier to keep up with the conversation.

Matchday threads will be a godsend.
I'm sure half the issue with the old forum crashing was dozens of people rushing to post a thread when we score or concede.
