Hemlington Trouble

It’s interesting that I was brought up in hemlington in the 70s and 80s but lived in the private estate in the “S”. Had an amazing childhood and had friends from all the troubled estates . Interestingly they were troubled then and still are. Parents still live in the same house they bought new on the promise of a bold new suburb before the council sold the land to make council houses . Since moving away from the area many years ago I have such fond memories when I visit my parents but the sooner they can get out of there the better in my mind. I have such as sweet spot for the place where I lived but man there is lot of it that is really bad. Hate saying that

Hemlington always had a bit of a rep but whenever I was there as a kid it was never that bad. Looks worse these days but probably chimes with the broader decline of middlesbrough and teesside, i dont think its way worse than comparable council estates. The youth are definitely emboldened by the low police presence but i dont think that should be the deciding factor in how someone behaves, ie.. they only behave when they know theyre being watched or their may be consequences, thats still chiefly down to parenting and their upbringing. The police are so impotent now anyway you could have an army of them on the rec football field and the kids wouldnt care, theyd probably go and antagonise them if anything. Ive seen little sh*ts outside tesco in ingleby bothering (carefully selected) people going about their business, they could do with a thick lug as much as some of the hemlington kids - far form cherubs, just spoilt little sh*ts.

Agree with previous poster that the gazette is a rag and i do look forward to the day when the printed version ceases to exist as it is no longer newspaper but a features/promotional daily. Hopefully the equally crap online version disappears also, even when Im elsewhere in the world I seldom look at it anymore.

It's a Council Estate, are they not all the same except the attitude and mentality of those who live on them.

Not true. I am part of a running group that run around the lake twice a week. There are lots of groups based in the community like the angling group etc and they all work hard to keep things going.
Ingleby and Preston Park have problems on a bigger scale. Mobs of youths bullying younger kids etc.
We noticed problems in recent weeks in Hemlington but as stated is small number of kids and police and community wardens are on it immediately.
Yeh Ingleby much worse than Hemo.

I think the original point was if trouble occurs on estates like Ingleby, Marton, Coulby Newham nobody bats an eyelid but when its Hemlington the Gazette have a field day
