Unpopular Opinion - The Sopranos

Just watched this through from start to finish again and it's safely in the very best one or two TV pieces of all time.

I know that lots of people at the time had a problem with the ending in the last episode but personally I didn't have an issue with that. The problem that I had was that they rushed everything into the last 2 episodes. In those last couple it went from a disagreement between NY and NJ to a full on war, various hits (I won't spoil it) both sides hiding and then coming out of hiding, AJ going from depressed to ok and Carmella having a future regardless of her husband.

They also tried to squeeze in Uncle Junior and Janice's future in the last episode too.

Every season was so well done and was balanced well but that last half of the season really rushed everything into the last few episodes, not in a way that was action packed but was rushed badly. I hadn't quite realised how much do until I watched through again in a few weeks.

I can't help wondering if there was a plan to continue to session 7 and if things changed which might explain the rush, but given the gentle hints through the last series that go on to explain the ending, I can't see that this was the case.

Still amazing though 👍🏻

Amazing tv I agree I like the ending ( no spoilers) but didn’t you think it was homage to the godfather and the infamous cafe scene and up the viewer to debate what came next.

Can’t wait for the new film though

The fact is his real son makes all the more poignant.

I think the fact I was well prepared for the controversial ending when I first watched it made it far less irritating for me.

Same about the ending, I’d already heard about how it played out so it didn’t have the same impact I imagine it would have if I’d come in without knowing.

Going to see the film tomorrow night, hoping it’ll be good!

I’m trying just can’t get into it - I’m only on series one but normally if I like something I’ll watch it back to back.

I really enjoyed season 6 and didn’t find it too rushed (certainly not in comparison to something like GoT!)

Ive just rewatched it through again and season 6 really shows Tony is beyond all redemption. The Christopher car crash, the Hesh scenes and Melfi finally realising she’s been used all along just to further his criminal activities are particular standouts.

Did you know they wanted Lorraine Branco ( dr melfi) to play Tony’s wife.
But she said after good fellas she didn’t want to be type cast and instead recommended her friend instead. Eddie falco.

The ending for me is a nod to the restaurant scene in The Godfather when Michael goes to the bathroom, returns with a gun and shoots Sollozzo and McCluskey.

Its been a while since I watched this great series. But for me the final episode just showed how really things would just carry on on as usual and Tony would always be looking over his shoulder.

I've tried twice and never got past the first two episodes, just to dated for me. I was too late to the party

I suspect he is dead too but who knows. The conversation with Bobby about not even hearing it when you're killed and when the New York guy who gets shot next to Sil with Sil not even knowing it had happened till after the event probably points towards this.

If he wasn't killed then the highlights of the last few minutes ever of the Sopranos were Meadow being a rubbish parker and some bloke needing the bog.

I watched it about 10 years after the whole thing had ended, and absolutely loved it.

Did the same with Breaking bad too.

Both some of the finest TV ever made IMO
