Anyone feel threatened...

I don’t feel personally threatened but the regime in charge of China are very authoritarian and if they ever feel their way of life is threatened it could easily change…

Covid has brought a realisation about how much of our raw materials come from China. China shutting down production has brought shortages in many areas and has seen prices for materials rise dramatically. Some of those prices have fed through to retail prices, some havent as it is hoped that as production restarts then prices will again fall. This will eventually lead to inflation rising and the resulting affect on our economy.

In a global economy we rely on countries that we shouldnt like to provide us with raw materials. We rely on Russia for gas, the middle east for oil and China for production. Without an alternative how do we stand up to them as they know that we cant do without them.

Eton - now theres a place to be worried about.

its got a school with a history of hooliganism, violence, sexual abuse, war-mongers, a politicised hatred of ordinary hard working people, purveyors of privilege for a chosen 1% and of living in the lap of luxury surrounded by fags, plebs & servants - the people on these islands have become so downtrodden that they point the finger at others rather than face up to their own truth(s) nearer home and of their making.

its not the Orientals, its the Etonians that you should be afraid of.

On the contrary; that's the point of the comment. Western imperial powers are on shaky ground when it comes to pointing out the genocidal behaviour of others.

I never get things like that. Because we did bad things in the past we can't point out to others that they are doing bad things now?

China always mystifies me with its behaviour. On the one hand it is so progressive in many ways and yet remains so rigid in its yielding of power. Following the rape of Nanking and the atrocities inflicted on the Chinese during the second world war by the Japanese they are now uber aggressive and beyond reason, they tolerate no dissent or challenging of the order, like Israel in many ways.

Let China sleep, for when she awakes.............
As said when the IRA called a ceasefire all those years ago. The British government kept insisting on the word 'complete cessation' meaning final and no going back and Sinn Fein said accept what is being done in good faith. Semantics at play. Why kick the dog when it's asleep and settled?

The problem is it isn’t. This expansionism will eventually affect us. We have to face the fact there is a power shift happening…moving from the West to the East.

“Right now you could say that any big project in African cities that is higher than three floors or roads that are longer than three kilometers are most likely being built and engineered by the Chinese. It is ubiquitous,” spoke Daan Roggeveen, the founder of MORE Architecture and author of many works on urbanization in China and Africa”

I read that 50 percent of house building in the world is in China alone. A huge country and population with tentacles spread across the globe. A superpower beyond the others. A sinister dragon thats for sure.
