Warlock has a real blind spot for keepers first bettineli now Lumley

I'd excluded the cup game given the line-up bore very little resemblance to our usual 11, but yeah, I'll accept he should have done better with 1 goal in the cup 5 weeks ago.

Not sure why today has spurred the questions about him though.

Probably dropping that cross that almost lead to a goal

I’m amazed it took lack of signings to give Jones surely he’s been good enough in training to deserve his spot he can’t of been hiding his talent 🤷‍♂️

If you speak to defenders I'm sure they'll tell you that having a lack of confidence in their keeper does affect their game. Even if his flaps didn't directly lead to goal it affects the team psychologically not having confidence that should they make an error their keeper will bail them out.

Has he ever made a save that you thought. “Yeah that’s a great save” he doesn’t seem to save anything 1on1s = goal, deflected shots = goal. He’s poor.

I think he was at fault for the second, yeah.

Glued to his line after flapping at every cross that came in for the whole match. Lumley just looks League One / Two standard to me.

Did you see the height the ball was at when Hall touched it? Right on the six yard line too.

Any confident, or even half decent keeper, is claiming that.

We've got a real soft centre in the middle of defence, Fry's a good defender but is better with a beast alongside him who takes responsibility for everything in the air. This team would be transformed with an Ayala and a Dimi / Randolph.

Been a big issue since Schwarzer really. Dimi and Randolph have been the only 2 I had confidence in over a prolonged period.

Im not counting short loan spells for Given etc. We have had some crap haven’t we?

dimi as much as I liked him wasn’t even good; he was just about ok, the team around him was defensively brilliant though which mitigated the risk. If he had this defence in front of him he wouldn’t of looked anywhere near as solid.

lumley is looking a poorer keeper than betts, thats for sure. they will soon become a time when he has to replace him with the number 2 keeper daniels, the sooner the better in my opinion,he really is poor

He is there for his long kick out nothing more same with bettineli last season.

but that insane picking a goal keeper on what he can do with his feet over what he can do with his hands Is madness.

The ball which went over the 6 yard box in the lead up to the second goal should have been his, instead he’s rooted to his line

The less said about his dropped catch when they hit the post the better.

Lumley is ok for me he's a reasonable keeper, he not been the cause of why we have been playing the way we have.

If you speak to the keeper I'm sure he'll tell you having a lack of confidence in the defence in front of him effects his game.

If you speak to the midfielders I'm sure they will tell you thier lack of confidence in the defenders behind them and the attackers in front of them effects their game.

If you speak to the attackers I'm sure they will tell you their lack confidence in the people behind them to supply the right service effects their game.

If you speak to the whole team I'm sure they will tell you that their lack of confidence in the manager to provide a shape and pattern to the team, and who allows the opposition to control possession and dictate the pattern of the game, who keeps the best player so far this season and most attacking threat on the bench and who seems to spend more time moaning at and abusing officials than he does concentrating on his team, will tell you it effects their game.

We pretty much need to score 2 goals now to win a game.

don’t forget Forrest should really have scored as well.

Not convinced by Lumley but he was not to blame for either goal yesterday.

If you look at the two goals. First goal was a direct result from us not organising properly when a bad refereeing decision went against us. This is a Warnock thing, constant clashes with officials does not give you anything other than alienating the referees. And it is rubbing off on the team. Play to the whistle, pick up your opponents, get in shape, organise. The decision isn't going to change. Second goal just bad luck, hits Hall on the head at point blank no chance for him or the keeper. So being professional and a smidgeon of luck would have got us the win yesterday. A draw would have been a fair result to be honest.

His performances don’t warrant the stick he gets from some fans.
He definitely seems to have 'a moment' in him most games, but for the outlay you kind of expect him to have some weaknesses. He's not really costs us a game as far as I can see from my limited opportunities this season.

The whole defence was a bit shambolic yesterday (and has been to an extent in most games, and really since January). If we don't sort that, the keeper can't make much difference to our season anyway.

The midfield seems to be leaving us wide open too often, fullbacks push up and then don't seem to get back. I have no idea what Dijksteel was doing at times yesterday, man marking? stepping up into DCM? It happened on several occasions where he stayed up field and central and Tav sat in to cover him, it was bizarre.

We look weak, confused and open playing as a four, ponderous and one dimensional and offering little attacking flair as a five.

We need to play less defensive players and defend much better at the same time, I'm not sure how much Warnock can do about that, but he'll have to find a formation/system that allows us to do so.

We can't control games, so far this season not having Saville, Morsy, Wing, Johnson, Coulson and Spence to call on has left us at a bit of a loss as we have a fair few injuries. I love Fry, but I really think he needs a more vocal bullying type with him, ideally with a bit of pace about him.

We look three players short defensively to me, a big 'head the ball' CB who is pacy and a talker, cover at left back and a tough organised CDM who can protect the back four and stop teams waltzing through us.

We seem to be a soft touch in almost all of the positions where a bit of physical and mental toughness is required.

So in short, the keeper isn't brilliant by any stretch. But if we were a well drilled organised unit his deficiencies wouldn't be an issue that would hold us back too much over a season I'd think.

Dimi at 38 looked like a top keeper because we were such an effective unit defensively, we need to get back to near that level.
