How long do we give Warnock then?

Couldnt agree anyones panicking. Just stating facts that for almost 10 months, our results have been comparable to a bottom 6 side. Its not just the last six games, and last seasons poor form has carried over to this year. This is concerning as weve largely kept our best players and replaced with better than we had in most areas. Common thread is Warnock. He got us out of a sticky situation but that was over a season ago. He's always been a second rate manager and someone i personally cant take seriously becaue of his childish way of conducting himself at pitchside, questionable skills and generall being a bit of a d!ckhead with an over inflated opinion of himself.
Ted,
to say we were in a sticky situation has to be the biggest understatement for a long time. We were a basket case team only going one way and that was down, he came in and we stayed up on the back of away wins as we could not win at home. For that alone he deserves our thanks and time. We have had a good transfer window, now lets see how they settle in and the team performs not change everything after one game post window.

Guess you could say the same about Pulis.

No one is denying him coming in probably kept us in the division, but we haven’t really progressed, and the point that many are making is that our form since the turn of
the year is not far off relegation form, which is about where we were when Wa rock came in.

The thread is about how long will NW get. The answer is probably until the end of the season, not least because we’d have to pay him and his staff off if we were to sack him. I don’t think we will, and at the minute I don’t think we should, but things need to improve, and they need to improve quickly.

If anyone thinks Warnock will walk away should we be promoted they’re kidding themselves, he’s never kept a team in the Premier League (although he maintains he kept QPR up) and I think promotion is seen by him as a means to achieve that end.

My concern is that Warnock’s success was based around players he knew and took with him, those players are no longer available to him and in the last few seasons his transfer record is patchy at best, who was it that gave us a small profit on Aden Flint ? His impact seems to wane the longer he’s at a club and that he’s a better moulder of resources than a builder of teams.

Of course he shouldn’t go now but results certainly need to improve quickly before real pressure mounts and a change becomes inevitable, what’s the point in keeping him for the season if we’re in the bottom half come November/December, give the ‘long term’ successor an opportunity to start building for next season and hit the ground running, see Karanka, obviously if we’re top half and pushing for the play offs then allow Warnock to continue.

The players he’s brought in need a little time to settle and gel but our form since January has to be a concern and some of our performances under Warnock have been as bad as anything we’ve seen in the last decade.

I think the pressure will mount if we lose the next two.

I can’t see us getting anything against a poor Forest side, but we really should be beating Blackpool at home.

Don’t get me wrong,I’d love Warnock to turn it around, and I could forgive turgid football for a season if it got results, but it’s now 3 wins in the last 16 and 9 wins in the last 34. He’s winning 1 game in 3 pretty much.
That’s not good enough.

We all need a bit of patience and a look at the "big picture".

Neil has had to clear out a rag bag of expensive, average players from previous Managers - a goodly few who werent prepared to play or stay.
Hes brought in good quality kids and players for next to nothing.
1631440359458.png
Its clear by the Morsy sale just where our finances are - and he reportedly had little say in the matter.

Neil didnt achieve any of his promotions with a microwave-ready team: he started from scratch.

It may have escaped some of us that Woodgate, Pulis, Strachan, Monk and Mowbray all achieved bugga - all.

Perhaps Tony can be remembered for three players: Leadbitter, Ayala and Friend - who were all bargains and a core of Karanka`s sides.

We shouldnt forget that Steve Gibson appointed those Managers - so when did anyone question his taking responsibility for at least four of those failures?

Karanka has been our only successful Manager since Southgate, and theres a question about how "successful" he [Southgate] was - before he was sacked.

So where is the proof that sacking is the answer? We have more reason to be excited about the season and seeing new players achieve their potential, than at any time since Bola and Anfernee arrived. Has everyone forgotten the collective "they`re crap" when they first arrived? Looked what happened to them..they have proven to be consistently good players.

We all know it takes time [hopefully not too much] to build any "team". Humans are strange things to mould and nurture into an efficient functioning machine. Has anyone here been involved in any team-building at work - in your community...? Perhaps the Forces provide the best example of team - building? Im not suggesting we train our defenders to strip and clean a GPMG and fire at targets in front with an SA80, but discipline and focus on the objective are crucial for success.

If we are still flipping it up at Xmas - maybe there will be concerns. But lets wait and see.....mmmmm

What rubbish! Patience? Where have you been since January? Results have been poor since this time- and no amount of window dressing alter this fact. The concern is even with a large influx of players results are following a similar pattern.

Results need improving NOW. We are far nearer the bottom of the division than the top.

The bigger picture is we are recruiting really well the change with the sporting director is refreshing. Whether NW is pragmatic enough to change his style and get the best out of the squad I would like to think he is. Its like we are recruiting like Brentford or Norwich model with Warnock as manager. I am not too concerned we won't go down we may make the play offs. But long term the new strategy is a winner

Are we recruiting really well. I see a lot of loans we probably need to replace next year plus some short termers who will move on at the end of the season. Still not sure about Ikpeazu and Crooks while both are grafters not sure the bring anything more to the team. But only time will tell. Payero should be the refreshing change you mention but not sure Warnock wanted him. Goalkeeper is pretty average for me. He has made a couple of good saves but nothing he shouldn't have got. Other times things have gone in that should have been saved. Would like to see Daniels given a start. Left sided defenders were a must but once again we have no left sided C.B.

Martin Payero (From Banfield) - Undisclosed fee

Uche Ikpeazu (From Wycombe) - Undisclosed fee

Matt Crooks (From Rotherham) - Undisclosed fee

Onel Hernandez (From Norwich) - Season-long loan

Andrez Sporar (From Sporting CP) - Season-long loan

James Lea Siliki (From Rennes) - Season-long loan

Sammy Ameobi (Free agent previously at Nottingham Forest) - Free

Joe Lumley (Free agent previously at QPR) - Free

Lee Peltier (Free agent previously at West Brom) - Free

Luke Daniels (Free agent previously at Brentford) - Free

Sol Bamba (Free agent previously at Cardiff) - Free

Toyosi Olusanya (From Billericay) - Free

Cannot see Warnock walking or being pushed this season. It's effectively a free hit while we put the pieces in place for next season.

If we're bottom three in February he might go, but not before in my view.

Truck,
With all due respect, i totally disagree. Just sounds like excuses

He's here for the season , lets flip it & some get their wish ..........who do they get ?, will they want half the players etc , be careful what you wish for !!!

I think Roofie's post is a good one overall.
I am more optimistic about our squad than I have been for the past four years when it became clear what a load of utter **** Monk, then pulis signed.
Gibson is not prepared to fund with equity, so staying within FFP is difficult.
We have lost amortisation charges and wages from some absolute crap and brought some interesting gambles in.
I am looking forward to seeing Sporar, Siliki, Hernandez and Payero play and already think Crooks is a very good signing.

People are concerned and I understand.
The results have been very poor for a long time now and there is concern over shape and team selections.
Neil will be here until the next manager is identified and appointed. That is likely to take the season given Gibson's mind numbing approach to managers.
There is every chance however that the new signings will click and results will improve. Then it will be crisis? what crisis?
Either way, the new manager will not have huge fees still to pay for on players he can't move, nor will he be stuck with lots of players he doesn't want tieing his wage bill up. Warnock will very much have done the job that pulis told us he was was going to do, but actually made worse, with wages an even bigger percentage of turnover when he left. This is why Gibson will be delighted at what Warnock has done and will not rush him out until he is clear who is next.

My personal concerns lie around our defence and McNair's role.
We don't have a reliable central two. Fry needs a leader alongside him. Hall and Bamba are both far far too slow. McNair can't play in a flat back 4 - and he can't play with Howson as holding midfielders either.
So we play a back three to cover the above, but without anyone capable of playing wing backs and without a left sided centre back.
Bola is a good left back, Dijksteel a decent right back, but neither are good wing backs and neither can play in a back three. Dijksteel is awful as wing back.
Quite why Peltier was signed is beyond me as even Warnock doesnt seem to trust him.

We appear to have some exciting looking forward players, but I'm not at all sure Warnock knows what to do with them. I hope I am wrong or that he figures it out soon as I would love his last season to be seen as successful, for his and our sakes.

There are some bitter people on here ..................................who are you going to bring in , bearing in mind Gibbo will not poach another clubs manager ...........ffs have a bit of patience , lots of new lads to bed in !!
From the top of my head, decent options currently available who have all achieved promotion:
Howe
Wilder
Neil

Where has this ‘next season’ spiel come from? Last season when results were poor he was banging on about how players like Howson etc would ‘enjoy next season’, yet here we are 6 games in, 1 win and it’s being written off already.

He’s been backed hugely, he’s got players through the door and we’re still *****.

It’s the consistent diluting of expectations from one season to the next I can’t stand. If we genuinely looked like we were building something I could forgive it. But we don’t, we’re just rolling the dice again.

"way off the pace"? He had a number of heavy first touches, that's a sign of nerves, other than that on the ball he looked tidy when he didn't have a heavy touch. He'll do fine.
Yes in the cold light of day, maybe I was harsh. We just look soft in the midfield to me and too reliant on wing backs. Not sure we have necessarily bought in the right players or got rid of players to improve much on last year.

For all his straight talking in press conferences and he might well be a bloke you’d quite happily have a pint with his football philosophy is sadly from era’s past and football at championship level has moved on.
