Tour of Britain - Great Orme

Just caught up with yesterday’s stage - what a spectacular finish both in terms of scenery and race. Woods, Honore, Allaphillipe and Van Aert going man o man at the end up punishing gradients. As good as anything I’ve seen this year.

Would be a brilliant classics route.

It was a stunning race up the hill. Some of the riders hadn’t done their recon and when they hit the hill from Llandudno town centre some were in the wrong gear and came to a shuddering halt.

I think there's huge scope for some UK one day races. We might not have the biggest hills in the world, but we certainly have some really challenging terrain. You only need to look at the Strade Bianche to see that a new event on the right course can quickly establish itself as a big part of the calendar.
The Tour of Yorkshire, the World's in Harrogate and the Tour of Britain have all shown that we can do it, we just need to find that one course that everyone can get behind and promote.

And the backing from ASO or RCS which is probably the most important thing, and is probably as key to the success of SB as the landscape.

Agreed. The commentators on stage 1 of the Tour of Britain mentioned the fact that although there were no massive climbs, the roads were constantly up and down, with hardly any flat. Same applies to lots of areas of the country. There must be room in the 1 day calendar for a high quality, high profile & well supported British event. Difficult to organise, and you would need someone to promote this.
