Claims Akpom has gone for 2.5 million Euros

We've signed 7 players: a goalkeeper, a centre back (presuming Bamba), a right sided defender, two attacking central midfielders, a wide forward and a centre forward.
Given the sale of Akpom and release of Ass and Fletcher, I will be absolutely stunned if we don't sign two strikers now.
I also think another wide forward/winger, a cover goalkeeper and a left sided defender will come in.
That would be no fewer than 12 new players.

As an existing core we already have Bola, Dijksteel, Fry, Hall, McNair, Morsy, Howson, Tavernier, Watmore.
There are also Fisher and Browne who would be first team squad players. (There is Stojanovic though he is likely to go out I guess).
Wing is out on loan at Wednesday and it appears Coulson will be loaned out and Spence sold

That leaves a squad of 23 and we would have a group of youngsters trying to force their way in too (Wood, Malley, Hackney, Coburn, Jones and at least one keeper). I personally hope Wood and Malley stay in the squad rather than go out on loan.

I think we will sign a good established striker and a young promising one on loan and a talented wideman. The goalie and left sided defender I think will be reliable cover.
Overall I can't help it, I am excited by the mix of players I think we will be seeing and those we wont have to any more too.
Super post Indeedido 👍 pretty much spot on what I think too, If those additions are delivered that is.

My only issue is regarding young Wood. I know we both feel he has a huge future ahead of him, the very top even. He really does need more game time for me. If he is to stay he simply has to start in any cup games rather than relying on, or hoping for bits and pieces off the bench. Cup games may well be few and far between though. Maybe he could start in a back 3 when that system is utilised as well? Trouble is, I do see Neil playing a back 4 more often than not this season. If that happens, Hall and Fry will start, if either is injured I expect Bamba will likely be trusted before Wood and if we were to bring in a LB/CB like Kean or Brown, would he be trusted before Wood too?

The lad will be itching to play week in week out and I worry if he doesn’t get more game time, we drive him more into the clutches of others. It is a difficult one to do whats best, especially with Leeds and others circling and his contract expiring next June. I assume we will have learned the lessons of past mistakes and at least offered him new terms. I would be so p’eed off if we lost him to Leeds for a pittance/free.

Our youngest debutant when coming on as sub at home to Notts County in the EFL cup in 2018, 16 years & 75 day

I am really quite fearful it may be too late. If the club believe he will leave next june, we will get a pittance. To have spent so much effort in developing a likely top top future talent is one thing, to see him in a Leeds shirt would be a whole new level of hitherto unseen fuming from my ears.

Thanks Col, I do get the view that Wood needs to play, hence a loan making sense, but I'd point to Hall and Fry being a little injury prone and could see an opportunity for Wood to play. If he played a couple on the bounce I think he would be very difficult to shift.
I get that I am extreme in my support for Wood, and can't argue with the benefit of him playing on loan versus sitting on our bench unused. My view however is that if he goes on loan, we will never see him again and we will get a pittance; whereas if he stays and plays he signs a new contract and we have our best centre back since Southgate.
The thought of Bamford, Traore and Wood playing together for Leeds mames my skin crawl.

I just hope they have a plan and can find a way to sort this mess out, I fully agree we need to maybe try your idea at some point tbf, but will Neil be brave enough to do it? I would prefer he did that than play Bamba personally, we all know he has ricks in him. Your way may be the best hope of keeping him, if it were to come off, him thinking I am at least breaking through here now I suppose. Hopefully the club will have an idea where Wood’s head is and a plan to at least have half a chance of keeping him. 🤞

On OneBoro. If correct, I think we’ve done well to get that much. Wish him well in Turkey. Not our best signing it’s fair to say.
He seems to have gone at least once a day yet I still see him wearing the shirt every pre season game. Has he really gone this time

I wish him all the best - It didn't work out with us, hopefully he'll do ok in Turkey.
I think he has no chance there, several have gone to Turkey and not done well, only lasting a year or so. It is a very wierd league dominated by two teams and high expectations from players.

Shocked we are getting anything back for him, has anyone who signed him ever actually seen him play? Can’t think of a worse striker we have had over the last 10 years.
What we’re we thinking when we spent that money on him last summer though, his goal record at this level is laughable

I can think of many forwards who are every bit as bad. They also cost significantly more😕

It would be nice to buy at least one that everyone talks about and we can sell for 5 times what we paid (or he scores the goals to get us up).

Who? Possibly a few of the Scottish players but in overall performance and goals I can’t really think of anyone as bad. He just offered absolutely nothing

Well I'd say hands down (in my opinion) Rudy. 6 league goals in 4 years at the cost of in excess of 10mil+ with wages. Then left for nothing😕

The point with Akpom is he cost 2.5mil (ish) and say we get roughly half back. That's 'decent' in terms of getting next to nothing back on Braithwaite / Britt / Rudy and Fletcher (in fact nothing at all on 3 of them).

He's a god awful signing. Yet in the grand scheme of the last 10 years no where near a 'disaster'. Just odd as we clearly wanted a target man.

We paid £9m for Braithwaite didnt we and sold him for just under 5m, if you’re saying getting roughly half back is decent for akpom not sure how you can’t say the same about Braithwaite and certainly not in same category as Britt / Rudy / fletcher who all left for nothing - at least Braithwaite scored in line with his career average for us and we didn’t have to pay his wage for part of it, may have even been loan fees

🤣🤣🤣 I love threads like this getting rebooted under the current circumstances.
Not one of you even said he had the ability to "turn you on." Not one.

Tbh I didn't exactly dive in defending Choobs at the time mind.

I wasn’t on the forum in those days, I would have definetly said that chuba was a goal machine and we must persist with him though. 👀
