Bands Who Might As Well Have Been Two Different Bands

I bet I could play this track to many casual Ultravox fans without them having a clue that it's the same band as the one that had the best Number 2 single to ever trouble the UK charts. (granted, different singer and with an ! on the end of the band name at the time, but still the same artist technically). Which other bands kept the same name but morphed from caterpillar into butterfly (or the other way round!)? I can think of a few.

Pedantically Ultravox dropped the ! before the third album so the band Midge Ure joined were already Ultravox not Ultravox!

For me any band that loses the singer is never the same band and shouldn't keep the same name. The Stranglers being an example.

This was the third one that I was thinking of....

I think Primal Scream have just grown and developed new styles as they have gone along rather than undergoing a drastic change from V1 to V2, throw in Loaded, Memphis Sessions etc, they are a unique fantastic band who sometimes get it wrong but more often than not don't.

Loved old Ultravox with John Foxx. Midge Ure ruined them for me.

First support band I ever saw (in their early jangly incarnation).....supporting the mighty Julian Cope at Leeds Poly in 1987.
