Could end up devastating for foreign holidays. Feel sorry for the tour operators, they must not know whether they are coming or going.
I’m not sure that’s true - this is a global pandemic and tour operators all over the world face the same issues. I’m not sure what the gvt do can make this any better or worse. We are as well placed as any European country in terms of numbers vaccinated, personally I just think travel is off the agenda for the time being which is devastating for the industry but needs must im afraid. They're being forced to struggle due to our weak government.
I'm afraid it is true. Weak management of the crisis and mixed messages are causing big problems in the tourism industry. Even the traffic light system isn't helping. with the government advising, but not stopping, to travel to red countries. It's a nightmare for travel operators not actually knowing whether they can refund trips or not.I’m not sure that’s true - this is a global pandemic and tour operators all over the world face the same issues. So what could they have done differently that would have resulted in a significant increase in the coffers of the tourism industry?I'm afraid it is true. Same question to you that I’ve asked smalltown? Or tell me a country who’s tourism sector is doing well?Do you truly believe the stuff you type on this website
If we had managed the pandemic better last year we wouldn’t have been locked down for the best part of 5 months this year, therefore allowing travel earlier. So what could they have done differently that would have resulted in a significant increase in the coffers of the tourism industry?
T's not necessarily in increase in the coffers. It's a protection of the decrease. The shambles way this government has handled lockdowns and the way they "stop" you from going places but don't actually stop you is causing massive problems in the tourism industry. A government with a clear and concise road plan would have help travel companies budget better and not sell holidays not knowing what the rules were and what potential cancellation fees would be incurred. So what could they have done differently that would have resulted in a significant increase in the coffers of the tourism industry?
Where to ? Where would people have been able to travel toIf we had managed the pandemic better last year we wouldn’t have been locked down for the best part of 5 months this year, therefore allowing travel earlier.
The UK. Would be a huge boost for tourism in the UK like we've never seen before and improve our balance of payments. Over twice as much money is spent abroad compared with the income from foreign tourism.Where to ? Where would people have been able to travel to
you said yourself earlier you don’t care about the euros and many people will be like minded and not want to travel until this is over.
for me until the world solves this problem tourism will be adversely impacted.
That’s a fair point - if we had handled the situation domestically better then maybe we could have had domestic tourism, staycations etc and would have seen an improvement at home. Let’s see maybe as we have a lot vaccinated that will be the first signs of tourism recovering on the domestic front. The UK. But, as I've described, it's more adversely affected in countries that aren't handling the crisis well. We have handled every aspect of the crisis apart from vaccinations poorly. Which hasn't helped our economy. Especially with the joint impact of you know what .Where to ? Where would people have been able to travel to

The government could have stopped the Indian flights and marked India as on the red list a lot sooner, as usual they delayed too long, potentially costing many lives, if this were a busy there would be a case for corporate manslaughter.I’m not sure that’s true - this is a global pandemic and tour operators all over the world face the same issues. Definitely. The Government have been pretty bad throughout, yet are not held accountable because people like good old Boris. The government could have stopped the Indian flights and marked India as on the red list a lot sooner, as usual they delayed too long, potentially costing many lives, if this were a busy there would be a case for corporate manslaughter.
Whilst I agree on this. I don't think it addresses @FatCat point about tourism. In fact the opposite. We could operate tours to India when the competent and less corrupt countries had already banned them. The government could have stopped the Indian flights and marked India as on the red list a lot sooner, as usual they delayed too long, potentially costing many lives, if this were a busy there would be a case for corporate manslaughter.

Yes I agree with that - I wish we had locked down the country many times so much earlier than we did.The government could have stopped the Indian flights and marked India as on the red list a lot sooner, as usual they delayed too long, potentially costing many lives, if this were a busy there would be a case for corporate manslaughter.
