Is John Lewis a "posh" department store?

we shop at waitrose and sainsburys, I'd say while waitrose is more expensive the quality is much better particularly for meats and fish. Also a greater range of products in waitrose which is probably ultimately what you pay the higher prices for.

I wouldn't say JL department stores are really posh, they have a good mix of price ranges now which are really competitive. Their customer service is second to non for the price point though, always really impressed which is one of the reasons I go and buy big ticket products from them.
We have a Waitrose near us but also a Tesco and a Morrisons.

Of those 3 I'd say Waitrose had the smallest range of products. And the most expensive.

Rather than “posh” I’d put them and Waitrose in the premium sector in the same way I’d put BMW and Audi in that category rather than luxury.

Waitrose have an annoying habit of not putting the price cards on items on the shelves. I guess the Cayenne/Tesla brigade don't bother about what things cost.
The main difference between a Waitrose and other supermarkets is you see more plain chocolate on the biscuits aisle.

As for John Lewis, it's where people go to get ideas for what they're gonna buy on Amazon.

Never liked John Lewis since I once heard the top man there on 5 Live (a few years back when they were doing well) saying he couldn’t see a John Lewis store in somewhere like Middlesbrough because that was not the image and market they were trying to reach.

I was appalled to listen to him.
When I think about it - John Lewis are very Metropolitan - their hell must be the BREXIT towns - while upper middle class Boris Johnson called the Downing Street flat "a John Lewis nightmare".

I definitely think of Waitrose as 'posh'. I've popped into my local one a few times for some milk or little bits coming home from work.

I feel well out of place. I have been 'followed' a couple of times by the security guard when wearing a hoody or work clothes.

I've not been in John Lewis for years. I imagine it's like 'Are You Bieng served?' Screenshot_20210501-073137_Samsung Internet.jpg

Clearly department stores weren't ethnically diverse in the 70s😂

We alway enjoy shopping in Waitrose.
The only thing that can spoil the experience is yobs wandering in wearing hoodies/ scruffy work clothes and baiting the security guards.

I never knew Labour voters shopped in Waitrose! ;)
That Tony Blair has a lot to answer for....... :)

Guess it depends what you're after. For example I think the range of vedge in waitrose is supirior to what I can get in tesco. As I say though we shop at sainsburys and waitrose and normally get the more fancy special bits from waitrose.

Can't comment on morrisons as genuinly haven't been in one since I moved to London from up north.

Horses for courses for me with supermarkets.

We have Tesco, Aldo, Lidl and Waitrose in our closest town.

Tesco generally does a job, Aldi if we are month end and just not wanting to spend.

My missus doesn’t like Lidl, but I love the weeks they put on. I generally stock up on “coffee biscuits” during their Italian week and beans giganticas and stuffed vine leaves during Greek week. Also their wine ratings are great.

Waitrose we generally go on a weekend for Saturday dinners, also if we want something other than staples. Their bread range, meat, fish and deserts are superior and a little more creative than other supermarkets.

The best of them all though is the local farmers market on once a month, I like supporting my local farmers and it’s good to put money directly into their pockets
