Bands who were better live than in the studio

Doesn't have to be all inclusive.

Genesis Seconds out is an album full of it.

This track is a million times better than the studio version, morbid as it is. BJH were quite good at raising their act in front of an audience.
Of course, you have to be of an age..... :)

They were incredible live.

I always found that low down dirty R&B (in it's original form) was better live than on record. The best examples would be The Pirates, The Inmates or Dr Feelgood.

Seeing Bruce Springsteen live is one of my favourite experiences and one I'd like to repeat many more times in my life if possible, but I very rarely listen to the studio records. With a few notable exceptions, I don't get overly excited by the recordings, but the live experience is something truly wonderful. The closest I'll ever come to religion.

Most bands were better live than on record in the 60s / 70s and what I've heard sporadically since - live music is real music as it was meant to sound with ambience of performance; records are second best but better than nothing.
Saves me from saying it. I really can't think of any band I've seen that is better on record. I can still remember seeing Mott The Hoople at the Jazz Club back in the 70s, when they'd had one album. Tremendous live act, which gave them no commercial success at all until the Bowie days.

Frank Turner. He has an energy, enthusiasm and inclusiveness which makes you want to bounce around and be the backing singers that does not always come across on his albums.
