Where do we go from here?

Re the OP, Warnock is here for another season, he knows it’s his last as a manager, he will get us closer or in to the playoffs. But hopefully he can also help guide SG to a great pathway for the future with his wealth of experience, knowing he’s not finishing with the sack like so many others. He can give advice unreservedly based on his massive experience.

He‘s achieved well with what he’s had so far (no striker and injuries) there’s no real reason there’ll be no improvement with some new players and an actual crowd.

You HOPE he won't finish by being sacked. If he can't arrest the slide he will be sacked though, and there's where it all goes wrong because he'll have brought in a lot of new players during the summer. I think on balance it would be better if he went now, so the cub can find someone new, with his own ideas.

Regardless we finished 17th last season, looks like we’ll finish 10th-ish this. Steady improvement is the best we can hope for. Flipping managers every 18 months or so isn’t the answer, it hasn’t worked elsewhere. I know NW isn’t the long term, but another season to steady things and improve by another four or five places is still good progress. Then when the new guy comes in we’re in a position to make a credible push.

What if the new man doesn't like the 8-11 players Warnock brings in this summer ?
The squad won't be his , his hands will be tied with little room to move .
That's why we need to be looking for the new man now , and letting him be involved with the recruitment this summer . JFH and Critchley tick the boxes.

The squad is never that of the new guy, that’s what buys them time, but that’s the same now or in twelve months time. NW has shown enough to be given the extra season and his record shows he has the experience to improve us.

As for JFH, i never liked him before he came here and good as he was I never took to him as a person. The next Strachan?

I will suggest a couple who I would consider to replace Warnock when he leaves, even if it's the end of next season , we could get the next manager lined up ready to step in, and even having an input on signings this summer .We must prepare for the inevitability of Warnock leaving.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink , Burton , age 49,1.88 PPM since taking over . Knows our club, loved by the fans , charismatic , knows the lower leagues , experienced , a winner . Respected around the football world.

Neil Critchley , Blackpool , age 42, 1.65 PPM , learned his trade at Liverpool with their youth teams , and one of only 16 people with the elite level coaching badge.
After an initial poor start he turned them round and Since November his record is
20 wins , 9 draws , 6 defeats .

On the other thread ' do we have to keep Warnock next year ' I have posted a list of managers who are not working, some interesting people on there .
You must plan for the future IMO , so need to think about the future now .

I like Warnock , and would love him to turn our slump around , to give us some hope for the future .
We wouldn't go far wrong by listening to Warnock about who his potential successor should be.

Warnock is not getting a tune from this squad ,
Is it because he has told them they will go ?
Or is it because too many are leaving and are on the beach ?
Neil changed 2 month ago in his enthusiasm and energy, his mood changed and it flowed through to the players. Its as if he gave up on this season then. Why ?
I thank him for stabilising the club , but we have not kicked on since then.
He is leaving in a year , why wait ? Stay long enough to help a new younger manager settle in , (1month )and then the new man can pick his own players for next season.
Players may not sign for Warnock , knowing he is leaving next season .
We are blundering from one calamity to another .
Put a plan in place now , new man , new players .
Do we trust Warnock to get it right ?
Huge doubts arising .

Bettinelli - out of contact in the summer

Dijksteel - injured
Fry - injured
Johnson - out of contact in the summer

Spence - 20yo learning a new position
Morsy - - injured
Tavernier - injured
Coulson- 22yo learning a new position (Browne - also injured)

Bolasie - picked up an injury and is out of contract in the summer
Assombalonga - out of contact in the summer
Fletcher - coming back from injury and out of contact in the summer

and folks are complaining because we're not in the playoff positions!!
end of last season we wanted survival and we got it.

no one expected a top six finish this season tbh, steady the ship make improvements comfortable mid table finish with an outside chance of the playoffs.
that's what we got

this summer, strengthen and continue our improvement. lets aim for a top six finish.

I don't thing anyone's complaining about our table position. They're complaining about our dire one dimensional football, dire performances and a goalkeeper who inspires no confidence.
