AND IT's REDCAR

Because I have learned my lesson on here.
I’m not going to argue with you, I’m interested to hear your reasons for the statement. I’ve already said I’m no expert so I can hardly put you to any sort of sword.

This.

Plus organised crime.

And less tax take for the likes of the NHS.
You are aware that organised crime has been and continues to happen on Teesside every day and has done since the dawn of man.

Adi is the oracle remember?

On a completely separate but loosely related note we could win the premier league in the next 5 years after an Arab investment and some on here would still **** and moan because the lads from pally park in the academy weren't the ones to win it for us. Never happy and never will be.

I'd probably be more concerned with the human rights issues and where the money actually came from, to be perfectly honest.

Point proven. 👀
The owners of Man City haven't done too badly for the club and the surrounding area for example.

Charter cities bad, charter cities good?.....who knows?
You're supposed to look at the available information, check the source, and formulate a view.

I've almost gasted my flabber learning that the Charter Cities Institute is in favour of Charter Cities. Whodathunkit?

Same here I’m no expert either. Adi obviously is but won’t share his wisdom. He obviously thinks we are being sold a dud and people celebrating this amuses him for some strange reason.

And that justifies anything they do elsewhere in the world?

You're happy to 'sportswash' the human rights abuses that happen in the UAE 'cos they sponsor a UK football team?

Haha! Yes I see what I did there in posting a link from a pro charter city source. However, to the uninitiated like me it does paint a different picture / counter viewpoint to your posted link. Who of us who are not experts is to say which posted link offers the more accurate assessment? Each article is written by a person with a vested interest or personal viewpoint, I can read both and decide how I want to process the different viewpoints. I am on balance taking today’s announcements re Teesside as a positive and will see how it develops or not over the coming years before hammering my stake firmly into the ground on either side of the argument. You are of course correct that we should hold people in office to account, but we can only do that post hoc.

I didn't say that. The club isn't the owners and the owners aren't the club.

Anyways the thread topic is Redcar.

Big things coming, new cinema, the old steel works been redeveloped,

I have not the slightest idea what the Freeport brings to the table apart from jobs therein. How does it affect the local economy from a business perspective beyond that? Genuinely not a clue as don't follow the news every day where this might be explained. Enlightenment sought.

Surely this is only good news when new firms move in and start creating jobs? If someone said to me millionaires can do deals in your garden and you’ll get fringe benefits, but no millionaires came to do deals, I’m no better off?

Is there any information anywhere on how it will effect businesses currently operating? Are there any large manufacturing firms left who could possibly win more work because of this and ramp up their business?

Able maybe?

Sorry, I was just nit-picking your "who knows" comment.

I'd love this to all work out wonderfully, but the architect was in Parliament today telling us why we need to double-down on austerity because we've borrowed more money for Covid than we did during the two world wars (paraphrasing slightly as it was a few hours ago). What he failed to mention was that the War debt was owed to other countries (mainly US & Canadia). The Covid debt is owed to the UK Governement by the UK Government. We've borrowed from ourselves. It's all just accounting.

If you're willing to gamble on the Free Ports not being the same sort of smoke & mirrors then good luck. I'd prefer to find out what the plans actually entail and how they'll benefit the area. At the moment it's just a good bit of PR.

I currently don’t see cautious optimism as a gamble. We all know this area has been dealt a tough hand over the years by all sides of the political divide but right now there is the semblance of positivity for the area from government so let’s see where it takes us. If it turns into a white elephant then we vote for a change next time round. Sometimes we hold our own area back with our own attitude towards things, perhaps it’s a just mistrust and defence mechanism derived from past experiences, but at some point we have to stop that and look forward to try and make our area grow. This seems like a possibility for that to happen currently and being overly negative from the outset won’t help in my opinion. I’m never going to say I’m right you’re wrong as I don’t currently know enough about the plans in detail, just let’s wait and see. We can hold to account if it proves to be another false dawn later at the polling station. 👍
