Age not job prioritised in second phase of Covid jab roll-out

Makes sense to follow that path. Would be interested to know the percentage of teachers who are 60+

There seems to be a lot more younger teachers these days compared to when I was in school.

No they just seem younger because you are older.
My wife just passed on a lot of her old teaching stuff to the bartender at one of our local restaurants - hard to believe she's old enough to be a teacher. Also highlights how people have to have work their way through college and then have to work second jobs......

Not everyone’s happy with this

”The decision not to prioritise police officers in the next phase of the coronavirus vaccination programme is a "deep and damaging betrayal" which "will not be forgotten", says the national chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales.

John Apter says: "There's real palpable anger from all levels within policing about how we have been completely disregarded and ignored in this phase.

"What is expected of policing does put them at risk, it does put them at risk of transmitting this virus.”

So does working on a supermarket checkout mate and delivering parcels for Amazon and teaching.

I am 56 and I would forgoe my jab so a teacher or other key worker, more at risk, can have mine. Seems sensible.

Its unbelievable how teachers and the police have been forgotten about, im due to have mine through work despite being in my 20s and not being in any risk group, and our need isnt anywhere close to what some front line services are, the priority system for this really is strange.

So you would expect most of them not to suffer with Covid like some of the older people in the population. Know people over 60 who have been suffering from cancer still not had it. Someone else near to 60 with heart issues still not had it. Teachers in the older age groups would hopefully have got the vaccine as it was. Not much I agree with this Government about but I thought they are doing things well with the vaccination roll out plans.

Just a question JM14 do you know why you are getting yours now being in your 20s. Seems strange and hopefully not the norm. Don't agree with singling out Police and Teachers because there is lots of other occupations equally deserving and at similar risks. As I said on last post I think the Gorvernment have it pretty much right on this roll out.

Yeah that's the point I was getting at basically, you would imagine it would be something that has been considered and looked into.

I'm in the 40-49 category and I think teachers and police and other front liners should be vaccinated before me.

I've just booked my first jab and it is to be at Darlington Arena which is opening as a "Mass Vaccination" centre. They are obviously ramping up the speed of the programme I was surprised when a friend of mine told me that the system was accepting us (as an over 60). No invite required just enter your NHS number and you can make a booking if you're eligible.

Perhaps this will just move things along quickly rather than inviting people by profession we belt through them by age?

Its very hard to define job status. If someone says all teachers does that include a 25 yr old teacher assistant who might only be in 1 afternoon a week, a head master who has no contact with children, play ground assistants, dinner nannies (are they still called that?) etc. It would be very hard to define and could lead to delays and internal arguments. Leave it as age group, no body can argue over a birth certificate.

I think the police have been offered the surplus jabs (ie the excess from each jab, rather than individual jabs), but have declined, because they didn't want to be 'seen to be queue jumping'.

So they've gone to waste instead.

Spain has decided to prioritise teachers.

Updated: AstraZeneca vaccine is for age 54 and below here. These are being prioritised for teachers. Not sure yet for older teachers.

I don't think the doses are wasted, they contact people later in the day to use up the doses if they see a need due to people not turning up.
