Living the Nomad life

Anybody ever thought about "dropping out" and doing this?
I love the idea of freedom and living an alternative lifestyle on the road. In reality, the UK is probably a bit too small, but the US would be good.

When I was mid 20’s and watched into the wild I was all for this. These days I’d like a camper van / van convert but I like coming home.

There’s some awesome instagram pages of people who have converted all sorts of vehicles into amazing homes that they live in now.

I love Ben Fogles series where he visits people who give up everything then move to remote corners of the earth with nothing more then shower gel, toothpaste & money from their sold belongings to start a new life away from life itself

I was reading about Esther Dingley and Dan Colegate's nomadic life style prior to Esther going missing. It seems to me that these two had everything going for them after moving away from the pressures of the 9 till 5 life style.

It is something I have always dreamt about doing but never had the bollox to do so.

I am intrigued in watching Ben Fogle's 'New Lives' programmes and how people have walked away from everything and have created a happy lifestyle away from the norm.

I get my 6 weeks in the caravan during the summer, but would love to take it further. I am retiring this summer and at the end of the 6 weeks holiday I am packing the wife on a plane home and are going to slowly make my own way back to Teesside, arriving home in October.

Sounds good Norman, good luck

I've just interviewed the guy who left his comfortable, conventional life in Dorset with his motorhome, for Loch Ness 30 years ago and now lives in it on the beach by The Dores Inn. He scratches a living from selling his little 'Nessie Hunter' clay models to tourists from his front door and has no regrets whatsoever.

Yeah, I suppose this life is something that just happens rather than being planned.

It sounds extremely boring to me - just my opinion :)

Day to day you're preoccupied with where you will get water, where you will ****, and where you will get food, and where you dispose of your waste.

That's why 99% of us live in a house, without having to worry about the basics you can actually get on and do stuff.

Lad I work with, his parents have one of those big RVs that tow a car behind and they spend the winters in the South of the US and the summers in the North.

I recently left the area where I have lived for many years and moved on my own to a remote area of Devon. I think it would work well if you did it with the right people, but doing it on your own and in a pandemic has proven difficult.
I miss the things at home that you take for granted, entertainment, cinema, car wash etc. I know that these are difficult to access during lockdown anywhere at the moment. Look forward to returning to civilisation soon.

The idea of doing so always seems attractive, I spend ages looking at van conversions etc but they're fairly pricy and you're probably always going to be sacrificing shower facilities or toilet facilities unless you spend mega money. I always think though its easier to do things like this when you have no money worries- if you're scratching a living somehow, you need to consider what you will be doing when you get older or are unable to work through sickness

Bit of a difference living off-grid, choosing that as a lifestyle than defaulting on mortgage payements , doing a runner after defrauding the insurance company and avoiding your obligations as a member of society.

How big a bank balance do you think you
Would need to just pack up a van and leave at age 50? Staying in Uk and Europe?
