Perth Goes into Full Lockdown

Also around 3000 miles away from the nearest city. It would be impossible and impracticable to do any such action in the UK.

Real shame, I've been twice in the last year and loved the freedom. Hopefully caught it early and it's nipped in the bud in ten days.

Isn't Adelaide only about 2000km away? So 1300 miles, other than that I take your point.

When I was there they were only allowing 75 people a day into WA.

Yes Western Australia have been the strictest of all the Australian states they weren’t allowing anybody in from NSW even though the latter was under control.

What do Australians make of our rules and death tolls? By our I mean parts of Western Europe, not just UK.

I wonder if he's been eating out 'to help out' 😂

I did notice they had large crowds at cricket and football over the Xmas period. One case is simply stunning.

He was a security guard in one of the lockdown hotels in Perth apparently who contracted Covid from a returner. Nz and Australia are in the main astounded at how bad the UK and Europe is. They are paranoid about the virus hence the caution.

My sister-in-law lives in Perth and declared to Mrs Chickenrunner that if she was still in the UK 'no one' would tell her where she could go and who she could see. Oh dear.

The UK could have taken action to prevent the spread from abroad. It's a choice we made. We're an island state.

Perth, like the UK, relies on imports and exports.

I think the nature of the action they have taken is a moot point in the discussion. The main point is that they have been decisive and not waited to see if things develop, by which time as we know all too well, it's too late.

We'll never be in the position to do anything like Perth have done because the infection is so widespread in the community.
For all the 10s of thousands of infections we report we have no idea how many asymptomatic or mild cases are wandering about. And they are wandering about because we are seeing the confirmed cases resulting from contacts in the daily reporting.
Our excuse for a track and trace program will never cope with the levels we are seeing so our best hope is to hammer the vaccination program and alleviate the deadly impact of the virus. We can expect to have the virus in circulation forever in this country given the asymptomatic nature of it.

Vaccination is everyone's best (only) hope. Oz and NZ have done well to keep it at bay with travel/quarantine restrictions but they can't last forever, they need the vaccine as much as we do.

No doubt about that, but I'm sure going forward that we'll still have the disparity in response to any flare ups.

My friends and relatives in Perth WA are stunned so many don't follow the guidelines over here, although they do understand our scale, population density and international travel.
