Woodgate on Talksport

I would turn it down and I hope to God at least 99.9% of posters on here would (I've allowed a small leeway in case NW is a secret poster).
As a Boro fan I would hate to be the manager responsible for taking us into non-league football.
I'd give it crack.....we would have bought both Calum Wilson (Coventry) and Bradley Dack (Gillingham).

I banged on about both when they were available for next to nothing in league 1 (if you count 3mil for Wilson as nothing😂)

Did he point out that it took Klopp a few years to win the Premier League as a counter argument to his sacking again?

Can't remember seeing anyone actually wanting him to be fair.

A lot of fans hoped it would work as it would've been a good story and something else we could've been proud of, but it never did.

I think if he wants to get back into football, he needs to go back to coaching and gain experience from working underneath someone who knows what they're doing.

Personally, I don't think he's cut out for management, however I've known to be wrong before
Some managers fail.. look at the guys that we're mentioned around the same time as Woodgate. Phillip Cocu, the Cowley Brothers.. all turned out the same in the end.

-----------Stojanovic---------
Dijksteel--Fry--McNair--Bola
Tavernier--Howson--Saville
--Spence--Britt--Johnson--

Not recognising McNair as a premier league defender was his biggest gaff imo.. but one that so many more experienced managers before him have made. Maybe it was pressure from paddy himself wanting to be this championship midfielder? Who knows

Nmecha, Roberts, Morrison seemingly deemed surplus to requirements as with the likes of Shotton, Ayala, Friend, Clayton and Gestede.. i'm guessing we would have had to pay a portion of their wages to get them off the books and who in their right mind would agree to that? (apart from Gestede obvs)

The summer of 2016 we made bad choices,, compounded by the transfers made in January 2017 the managerial appointments of Agnew & Monk, very similar to the Summer of 2008 in my opinion some dreadful decisions made that were compounded by a dreadful January 2017 window followed by the disastrous appointment of Gordon Strachan.

It happens. For me Woodgate has to grow some ball balls and get down and dirty in the lower leagues. no point waiting and trying to blag it and trying to ride the coattails of a decent manager.

Great to see Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink back at it for Burton Albion.. GREAT STUFF defo think he has the makings of a good manager.

Fleetwood Town looking for a new manager..

Managers need some degree of humility, the ability to articulate their ideas and a hefty dose of tactical awareness. Woodgate, for me, has none of these.

Every day I thank Buddha that Warnock is here and not this Leeds legend.

The perfect story would have been - Woodgate joins Hartlepool (or similar), has some success on a limited budget, hones his coaching skills and 3 or 4 years down the line joins the Boro setup.
To throw him directly in alongside Keane (also untested) was just madness!

I'd be gutted if he got the job at my local non league team to be honest (South Shields).

There are far better managers even at non league level.

Appointing a manager with zero experience in the Premiership and zero experience of management. Has that happened since Southgate in 2006?

I thought Southgate would have be a good number 2 and give him a chance to learn without it costing a lot.

I notice Southgate has not been too keen to return to club management after leaving Boro in 2009 which shows it learnt it was very tough at club level.

He must be after another stab at management as he's been doing the rounds on TV/Radio/Podcasts lately. He would be better off starting in the national league and building himself up rather than going into the deep end again.

ffs give the bloke a break,he tried his best but it wasnt enough , move on,i think at some point he will try again and with a bit of experience along side him,he may suprise a few people, apart from the ones willing him to fail of course, which there appears a few on here.

Fans try to defend him by saying he couldn't turn down the job, but what's indefensible to me is that it seemed pretty obvious he wasn't going to step down from the job. If Gibson hadn't acted when he did Woodgate would have taken us down.

Give him a break?! The bloke was absolutely useless. Pairing Gestede with Nmecha when we desperately needed goals to win a game.

Thank God you're in the minority Brattle.

The issue Woodgate had with the golden thread money ball kinda plan is that you bring in these high potential young players in Browne, Dijksteel and Bola with addition of academy lads. But inorder to fulfill their potential they require a hell of alot of coaching something Woodgate couldn't provide. So they flopped on the pitch as weren't drilled into what to do.

I think he likes international football management as I mean he only has that stress every two years at the Euros or World Cup rest of time can sit back relax go around country attending Prem games in directors boxes to scout England players. With club management it's non stop and alot less job security!

Have to agree with this, what a mistake, a child could have picked a better team, it was week's in the planning as well,no idea what Keane did, if anything which didn't help the situation.
Glad it's well in the past otherwise the club might have been as well.

Good: when asked about the Boro experience - he said "I loved it" and when asked about any regrets he said about backroom staff, his response was telling - "I should have had someone with more experience".
Decent fella (y)
He`l make a good gaffa.
Some of his signings were excellent, needed nurturing but a big impact to the playing staff
