Oil Tanker Hijacking?

oh for god sake why did you have to turn this into a political thing

1. The SBS are always involved in this situation. They train for this every day... the guys on board will have been given chance to surrender by the police... if they don’t then the SBS have to board as the police are do not have the training or the equipment

2. it’s hardly on the same level as 1980... it will be forgotten about in the press by lunchtime.

3. regardless of if they are illegals or terrorists they have committed an illegal act of piracy... that’s a pretty serious thing in 99%of the world.

4. if they are that desperate then why did they threaten the crew that’s been looking after them for two days then fail to surrender at the first opportunity

5. this is the second hostile act on a vessel entering British waters in a year... both have been dealt with in the same manner to deter others

6. The Nigerian Delta is a lawless place where piracy, kidnapping and hijacks are a daily occurrence.... mostly run by organised crime gangs... who is to stay this is not a new tactic to bring illegals into this country or worse?

A nice little distraction from the main news...

Hardly hijackers and probaly a situation that wouldnt normally get an SBS reaction...
Are they trying to make this the current "Iranian embassy seige" moment?

And when you talk about the intelligence of the "hijackers" you have to look at why they are doing wat they are doing? May be theyre desperate asylum seekers, may be theyre terrorist but im guessing its the former?
I mentioned in my post for asylum seekers they had done everything right until they took control of the boat. Yes you have to question what they are running away from, but they have lost all sympathy when violence gets involved.

It was never mentioned as a hijack until the government got involved. There were stowaways found onboard the crew challenged them and the stowaways resisted. Yes the police asked for help and the obvious choice would be the SBS close by.......but 2 Lynx Wildcats as well ?? Routine training for the SBS, in fact I bet those involved are being ribbed mercilessly by their colleagues and especially the SAS! The trouble is all these ex this, that and the other trying to big it up.

Why would they be ribbed mercilessly? They regularly train for events like this all of the time, including on oil rigs in the north sea. The SBS successfully carried out a similar mission in the straights of Gibralter earlier in the year.
I wonder if there would be such playing down, defence and excuses for people breaking the law if they were Brits hiding on and hijacking ships in the English Channel?

They were stowaways mate, Nigeria is one of many destinations that are “high risk stowaway stations” we have extra checks ourselves every time we go there.
They will be “ribbed mercilessly“ because of people like yourself being so bluddy melodramatic and making out it was far worse than it was.

Apart from illegally boarding a ship, endangering the lives of everyone on it and then intending to enter a country, illegally.
UR - You are being pedantic and trying to make me look like a pr!ck with that comment. You have missed off exactly what I said regarding them entering the ship as stowaways to seek asylum in my earlier post. Yes, they entered the ship illegally and had been found early in the voyage, even the owners knew they were on the ship. What they had done to that point was no different to the asylum seekers crossing the channel stowed away in a truck - Illegal I know , but how many get prosecuted for this when they hand themselves over? These people on the ship would have been sent to a processing centre once they arrived in Southampton. They would have there case assessed to see if they are eligible to stay. Now they will face charges of hijacking.

Somehow, I think you knew all this though.

ISPS protocol probably initiated the SBS given the ship is an oil tanker. I would imagine Ship Security were attempting to pacify them before it got out of hand.
