Warnock: best Boro manager for a Generation

His way of handling the players , the fans and the press are fascinating to watch in terms of his handling of questions with his lighthearted honesty without ever getting personal
One of his biggest attributes is he doesn’t bear grudges and players love that because mistakes are forgotten and they start to really like and trust him and therefore bust a gut for him.

He turns boys into men by gradually giving them a bit more responsibility and respect a bit at a time

Britt for example with the captaincy. Left field but making Britt super focused.
Roberts coming back, notice how he said; he’s come back more mature
Players like that. It gives them a good feeling and also puts manageable responsibility on their shoulders. Enough but crucially not too much to overwhelm them
He clearly assesses them with his team and identifies something he can use to take them as men and a player to the next level.
Its this approach alongside the clear coaching with Blackwell and Jepsons experience which is rubbing off on the players understanding of what NW wants from each one of them.
Great psychology 👍👍👍

With the best will in the world and being very happy with the progress the team has made under Warnock he still has a long way to go to be thought of as our best manager of a generation, Rioch, Lawrence, Robson and Karanka all achieved promotion from this division, Rioch, Robson and McLaren all got us to cup finals and McLaren won a trophy and got us into Europe twice, at present he’s equalled what Mowbray achieved after he took over the club, he’s stabilised a team that looked destined for the drop into a mid-table Championship team whilst reducing the wage bill and bringing in players on the cheap.

I certainly think he’s the best we could have at the club at present but it seems we are being swayed by his achievements at other clubs rather than the reality of what he has done here, if that is the scenario then Venables would be the best manager the club has had in a generation.

American M ; fair points. Suppose I’m putting my neck on the line and stating this is what we have to look forward to; someone who’s destined to become our next robbo and/or Rioch more like.
I see it developing and wanted to share my excitement and explain what I am seeing as it develops 👍

Boro barmy ; honestly, I don’t think NW works like that whereby we is intentionally rude and curt with people: the reason being people go away and talk about how much of a to$$er he is and people (former players) don’t do that with NW primarily because he’s straight and strong but does it with respect for the individual
Which I think is one of his best traits because players watch how other players are treated and respect a manager even more if they see the manager treating people with the respect even if they sometimes don’t deserve it.

Accept what your saying Ex Footy but I’m convinced ( albeit me being a non expert ) that it was two words and the second word was Off 🤭
I bet he was talking on behalf of all the players as well

I agree, He is doing well of course.
But come on, He is only a few months into it.
So far so good.

people are saying how Neil has been great with no money.
Not quite true that is it.
we have made some cash signings.

Bruce Rioch was the master making do with what you have got for me.
Christ, he didn’t even have a ground or training field.

Big Jack wasn’t a bad un either.
And he had Charlie Amer as a boss.

Lets just leave it for a bit yet eh, and let him get on with it in his own way.

Sort of see where youre coming from Ghost, but in Jacks & Bruces team, both in my top 3 Boro managers of all time, had a abundance of talent at their disposal, how they managed it to take us forward was another issue & both managed in fantatsically well, dont think NW had those riches TBH

Boro barmy ; NW explained at the time in an interview what he said to Gestede and I fully believe him

he told him, Your contract expires in a month, it’s ok, I say so. no need to stay, you can go and leave today. Goodbye.
Straight and strong.
Not rude just honest and explained he has the authority now. You can go. NW had too much else far more important than petty jibes at RG.

just wanted him out to concentrate on getting his message to the players he wanted there.
Simple life lesson really
Don’t waste your valuable energy on things you don’t need to

His record speaks for its self, but to go down as good Boro boss you have go up, he knows this. What I did like was his remark "I dont want mid table, Im running out of time"

Don’t forget, Rioch took those kids from the third tier to the Top tier in a oner !.
No ground, no money ( he paid the wages of the players himself )
Could you ANYBODY else doing that ?.

That is some achievement, some man.

Way too early to be saying that but its nothing short of incredible what he has done so far.

Taking over a club that was almost certain to go down and now looking like we can challenge for the playoffs with minimal changes to the squad is some achievement. Cant think of any other manager we realistically could get that would have that sort of impact.

We're still in the bottom half of the table. A few places above where we finished.

Far too premature to be making claims about his standing amongst former managers.

Mowbray and Karanka had impressive starts.

It's pleasing to see what a proper manager can do.

Monk, Pulis, Woodgate were 3 shocking appointments and all 3 have set us back years!

Thankfully we now have a manager who knows what he's doing.

Long may he continue.

He isn’t - yet, but clearly he has the potential to be. The reason he might not become the best in a generation would be that he won’t get the funds to back him that S Mac got.

I do like everything about what and how he goes about things.
