Parents asked to cover faces on school run

Picked grandson up from school last week, put my mask on as I usually do when there is posible contact with others. Could not believe there was only myself and one other person with a mask on at school.
Same for me picking up the grandsons, mind most of the other parents are Americans

They have just brought this in at my GFs school, amazing it hadn't been until now. If anyone yearns for a time before Covid then just visit your local school - it's like it never happened.

Slightly different topic, a couple of pupils in one class had positive tests, so that whole class has to stay at home and isolate. The kids who tested positive have siblings who are in school still. Where is the logic in that?

I really don't get what's so difficult - in Malaga, we are told to wear a mask at all times when outside, and you NEVER see anyone not wearing one - in shops, walking the dog, outside schools, public transport (in fact you're not allowed on buses and trains if you're not wearing one), workers in shops, restaurants and bars, literally everywhere. We don't appear to go in for the chin warming variant either - always worn properly.

I suppose on the spot fines by Guardia Civil carrrying guns might help focus the mind somewhat

Everybody social distances at my little one's school whilst waiting for the kids.
They've also staggered start times and finishing times so everybody isn't piling in and out at the same times.
With only 3 positive cases in the entire school since they went back (all of them teachers and all recovered) it's working well. I've spotted about 3 or 4 people wearing masks when picking the kids up.
The school isn't on masses of land either so I find it a bit odd that other schools in the area haven't strictly implemented the same ideas.

It's completely over the top in Spain though (I am also here). Why should we need to wear a mask when walking alone down the street? I have literally had a police car pull over next to me and tell me to put a mask on whilst I was walking down a deserted street alone on an evening. There is ZERO danger to anyone in this circumstance. Why should it be insisted we should wear one at all times?

Ermmm, because it's working, it's the law, and why should you be the exception ?

It is impossible to say you have to wear a mask in this circumstance, but not in that, and maybe in this if it's a Tuesday but not on a Thursday if its raining, because it's then open to interpretation and you end up with the 5hitstorm that is the UK at the moment. The rule as it stands is unambiguous and is enforced, and certainly in Malaga is working.

It's not just ME being the exception though is it, it is a completely over the top rule for all in line with the heavy handed approach the Spanish Police seem to deploy. It is ridiculous, as are the over the top fines that go with it.

Just because something is law doesn't make it right, laws are made by people too they don't come from some divine power, and a number of the laws put in place to deal with the current 'situation' that grant police & governements powers never before seen (Coronavirus Bill?) are questionable to say the least.

Locking people in their house 24/7 for a month would also undoubtedly 'work' but that doesn't mean that it is the most suitable option. Too many people willing to roll over and accept whatever the government roll out next without question - when do you say enough is enough?

I always thought that was a myth about people taking kids to school in their jim jams!
You are joking, it's real mate. My daughter left her juniors school, and the amount of letters sent home telling parents not to wear pyjamas was unreal. Do they not realise, they wake up in pyjamas, sit on settee or around house, go out in them, go home, and go back to bed in them

Really? Wow! Honestly thought it was a myth. Having to send letters out to tell parents what to wear?! Beggars belief.

That's crazy! We even ask the siblings of quarantining kids (not just siblings of the positive kids) to isolate at our school just as an extra precaution. Surely if a household member is positive then the whole household should be in quarantine??

My wife and I wear a mask when we pick up or drop of my daughter (we are not asked to). Most parents don't. But, I don't really see the point. The kids are going to be mixing all day. I can't see the school gate being a major infection vector when discussing schools. The classrooms, the corridors, the playground are all much more likely to be infection vectors by orders of magnitude.

Still if it gives the public something to finger point at, job done. There is only one place we need point our fingers, and nationally we should all be pointing at Johnson and his advisors.

Where have you been MV? And it's not just school, jimjams and fluffy slippers are de rigeur in Stokesley chippy at 7:30 on Friday night. Disappointing when I've made the effort with scruffy quarter zip fleece & baggy dad jeans accessorised with a pair of JCB wellies, no standards some people.:)

Lived most of my life in other climes Mr Runner, so not used to seeing this. Only been back on these shores a couple of years and now yearning for Asia again... Can't beat a good pair of wellies though... should be compulsory!!
