Liverpool and Man Utd in secret

End of the (English) Premier League, or the end of the Champions League?

Apparently, matches for this proposed "super league" would be played mid-week and their participation would continue in our domestic league
It could mean up to 34 extra matches - so how do they square that circle given current squad sizes?
Little wonder they got their heads together last week and presented The Big Picture as a precursor to this announcement.
In an ideal world I'd let them proceed with this European super league but kick them out of our domestic competitions including the premier league but we know that will never happen and the bully boys will get their way

And who would kick them out? The PL itself certainly wouldn't, nor would the other clubs.

I'm surprised that the viewing figures for the group stages of the Champions League on BT have led them to believe that a league format is the way forward.

I think that while the domestic landscape would be changed, it would level the playing field for 85 or 86 clubs. Let's restructure and start again, I genuinely believe we would still have the biggest league in Europe outside of the new European league so would still be appealing to broadcasters and sponsors. However, I think without the big 6 or 7 clubs we would see a much better league for those that are left.

Viewing figures in the UK or the Far East? Thats where the money is.
Yep, indeed, to some extent at least. I don't think the far east is the only consideration though, the European market is hardly insignificant.

But even in that case, I'm surprised the Chinese/Japanese/Korean markets are that bothered about Real Madrid v Panathinaikos in a one-sided affair on a Tuesday night with nothing more than 3 points up for grabs. But if they are, they are.
