Can somebody tell me why Stockton isn't in lock down ?

Is it because the rate in Stockton is less, due to a bigger population?
Anyways I think it will be announced today that all of Teesside will be in lockdown from Wednesday

Are you talking about Stockton borough, or Stockton town? The town of Middlesbrough is actually bigger than Stockton. It's only when you add on The likes of Thornaby and Billingham that the population is bigger.

If Tier 2 is based, as reported, on 100 cases per 100000 in a week, most of the population of the country will be at least Tier 2 very soon.

The lockdown applies to boroughs, so Stockton Borough includes Billingham Norton Yarm Thornaby Eaglescliffe etc

Probably because Middlesbrough and Hartlepool didnt stick with other councils (Redcar, Darlington and Stockton).

Others will likely follow very shortly.

On 5live today Emma Barnett interviewed a consultant from James Cook Hospital. It seems that the number of hospital patients is well down from the peak - perhaps only a fifth or sixth of the highest numbers - and we seem to be well placed to cope. He also says some interesting things about North Tees hospital and how they were the first to prescribe a particular drug.

Well We are now - tier 2

From Alex Cunningham

This Tory Government has completely and utterly failed the people of Teesside and the North East. Our businesses are now facing the toughest times imaginable: 12,500 jobs have been lost in the Tees Valley since March, and the failure of the Tories’ coronavirus response means it is inevitable that more good jobs are going to be added to the scrap heap.
"Our families are once again being torn apart, for months on end. Yet not every area with the same levels of infections is being treated the same. We deserve to know why nearby Tory areas with high infection rates are being spared these tighter measures. The Government are playing dangerous political games with people’s lives.
“But in the midst of such bungling incompetence, Covid-19 infections and hospitalisations are rising across the Tees Valley, and so it is vital that we all do our part and stick by these new rules to bring the virus back under control.
We must not listen to the naysayers who have been sowing seeds of mistrust and doubt about the appropriateness of further measures.
The UK has one of the highest coronavirus death rates in the world, and it continues to climb. Now it is time to pull together and support our local services who will be implementing these new restrictions, and working to keep us all safe.

What are the tier two lockdown rules?
Pubs and restaurants will be allowed to remain open in the middle tier, but with tougher rules around socialising.
Here are the key rules expected:
  • You cannot have people you do not live with over to your house
  • You cannot visit anyone else’s house
  • You cannot socialise with anyone outside your household in pubs, restaurants or any other indoor setting
  • You can still meet up to six people in a private garden or public outdoor setting, such as a park
  • Businesses will not be legally mandated to close
  • Social distancing and the 10pm curfew will be maintained

Who is going to enforce all these bonkers rules? The police? Nope, not enough of them for a start. Covid marshalls? Yet to see one and like anybody would take the 'mega Karen' seriously anyways. The army? 🥴

But the footie is still on the telly so that's a good distraction.
