I didn't realise that Ryan Shotton

Nothing against the man but,

Poor lad.
Hes got somewhere to live then(y)
Hes got a car to sell.
Hes been paid 30K plus for the last 4 years or more. and the rest.
My heart bleeds.
And the same goes for any other footballer who`s commanded good money in recent years.

We all have to cut our cloth accordingly.

I don't think anyone is asking your heart to bleed
he earned what he earned based on his perceived talent within his industry

To be fair Roofie, he hasn't been whining in the press about not having a job, so why are people getting on his back? we would all happily accept 25k a week off our employer if they were daft enough to offer it, so good luck to him.

Is still without a club.

This is where health / career decisions kick in I suppose.
If nothing crops up very shortly, I imagine he will declare himself ‘Unfit for work’ thus enabling his pension scheme payments to kick inthat I assume he has been contributing into since he was a teenage pro player.
When fit, Shotton wasn’t a bad player.
He would have certainly done us ok for the next 6 or 7 months.

I’d give him a call.
Thats if he isn’t already parked up outside Rockliffe Hall right now waiting for Neil.

I wonder how actively he's been looking?I've not heard him linked with any club and maybe he's just taking a 'time out' after years of playing.

He's probably set for life (if sensible) and maybe just having family time etc. I don't think Rudy has a club? You could probably retire after a 4 Year contract at Boro (that's not including all his other clubs). I read when Shotton was linked with wigan that he was one of our high earners.... Stunning if true😕.

You look at the list of free agents and many are well known in 30s or recent injury records are not great.

Also many simply price themselves out of a move. Even when 'free' they command big wages and signing on fees (and agent fees). I read that when Danny Welbeck left arsenal on a 'free' he wanted 5mil signing on fee and 75k a week. That's not very 'free' 🙄

I'm sure Shotton is fine. Yet even Warnock said last week that if a player is still without a club then you must wonder why?

Don’t really get why some people have negative thoughts toward Shotton, yes we all know he wasn’t worth the wages he was on but that’s the contract he was given. During his time here he always gave his best and for me was a good squad player and would fill in anywhere, people like to remember his clangers but he did have some very good games for us. He is a useful squad player at this level if the wages are at a more reasonable level. Wish him well in what he does next

I would too. He could still do a job for us.
I think he could to, but he couldnt expect anything like he is reported to have been on before.
Pay-as-you-play or month-by-month till he finds someone who wants him for longer?
Keeps him fit.

Its footballs wake-up-to-reallity time.

Why the animosity towards him?

I remember his debut at home to Brentford, he was awful but turned it around to, IMHO, be one of the 1st names on the teamsheet

We don't know what went on behind closed doors, maybe he didn't show same commitment as a couple of others, he could have been offered new terms, maybe he was & decided to chance a better offer elsewhere, his choice, maybe Pulis didn't fancy him, whatever the options available he's too young to retire unless he wants to call it a day & walk away from football
