Might be just me this, but wasn't he the one asking for a local Middlesbrough lockdown now saying he won't stand for it??

Just confused me a bit this one.....?

Quite the opposite, he wanted less controls but the government have just ridden roughshod over him and put stricter restrictions in place.

Andy Preston wanted publicity by asking for a local lockdown, his reaction is him wanting more publicity as he must have been aware of what local lockdown would entail, some politicians believe that being in the public eye is more important than serving the public’s best interests.

He is loving this attention

I wouldn't be surprised if the BBC tear him a new ar$ehole with his skyscraper folly ' over the border '

Helicopter pads and rooftop table tennis tables included .

Carol Malia ... 'Politcal leaders on Teesside have defended their decision to ask the government to ban household socialising. Hartlepool and Mbro councils took the step after rapid rises in covid cases.

But mbro is asking the government to continue to allow upto 6 people to meet in pubs and cafes. They said the move would help the towns economy and prevent loneliness and isolation'

Andy preston ... 'strict measures are almost certainly coming our way. We dont want a tyne and wear style restrictions, we want something thats pragmatic, thats suitable for mbro and other places so we propose something that suits us and the third one is we really have to keep our jobs alive, so we wanna protect our cafes, restaurants and bars keep them going get through covid'

I have little time for Preston, he's a con man and a snake oil salesman. However, I don't believe it is his fault that he got more than he asked for. I believe Matt Hancock has just lumped us in with Liverpool.

I think it was fanciful to expect the government to write a set of bespoke Middlesbrough regulations when there are already regulations in place for the rest of the north east. That was even more so when the government has been getting criticised for the complexity of different rules in different places.

Preston should have known this when he put his head above the parapet. He should also have known that, when the other NE councils asked for a set of additional measures to mitigate the local lockdown, they got the new restrictions and nothing else.

Andy preston ... 'we went to them, we told them what they can do to limit the spread of the virus. They could protect viable jobs, they could protect mental health, we could have looked after the community and stopped the virus spreading.

But they didnt listen at all and theyve imposed this measure that we were trying desperately hard to avoid, that is bad news and its ignorant and its a mess they could have avoided'

Andy mcdonald ... 'we knew that further restrictions would be neccessary, but the problem is in the extent of the restriction and its been done as we now discover without any prior consultation with the local authority in middlesbrough and that is contry to what matt hancock said on his speak in the house of commons this very day'
