Trump V Biden

I haven't seen any of the debate, but I did stick YouTube on this morning when I got home and perhaps Trevor Noah said all I needed to know.
He said that it was a farce and there is no such thing as an 'undecided voter', just people who are too embarrassed to admit who they'll be voting for.
He did suggest a method of real-time fact checking involving tetris bricks falling on screen every time someone lies as it'd finally allow Trump to complete his wall.

I don't think Biden looked particularly impressive, but Trump just came across as a rude, belligerent, abusive bully. Now his base will see that as a positive, but it isn't their vote he has to persuade. He needs to dissuade people from voting Biden and persuade middle ground voters to vote for him, I'm not convinced he would have made any headway in that.

I don’t think anyone made headway in truth, What some people might do is think ‘whats the point in voting‘ though, if that helps anyone, it will be trump. Trump is clearly try to make Biden look more senile than he is, I think he succeeded, but at a cost hopefully.

I liked the way Biden on 2 or 3 times spoke at the camera and the people, Trump never did. The disaster was the host, he allowed Trump come backs after his 2 mins and only occasionally intervened on his shouting over Biden. As I say if anything it turns people off which may well have been tactical. I loved the sheer irony and down right, bare faced hypocrisy of Trump saying Biden was racist and would do nothing to raise equality and living standards for Afro-Americans unlike him. The man hasn’t got one single unselfish cell in his body.

For me the main problem was the host, Chris Wallace of Fox News (why?). As the Guardian said, he was "like a school supply teacher, hopelessly out of his depth as unruly children run riot." I wasn't aware that they had the ability to cut the sound from each microphone. Why wasn't that used? I think we know why.

Do these farces even make up the minds of voters as to which way to go? If they do it is an indictment only on how shallow voters are frankly.
According to research only around 3% of electorate are entirely swayed, or so I read this morning.

But that doesn't mean both campaigns treat them in that context.

Having seen some of the lowlights, I was shocked by Trumps behaviour, even after I thought nothing he did could surprise me anymore.

If Trump wins the Democrats will be the architects of their own downfall again. Trump gave Biden plenty of open goals but because of Biden’s I’ll health he‘s not quick witted enough to nail him. For example when Trump attacked his son Biden’s reply should have been something like.....”Are you kidding me?? Pot kettle black! At least he’s turned the millions into something more productive than bankruptcies and hundreds of millions of dollars of debt”!! And so on and so forth.

I don't think politicians in general and the Democrats in particular go in for self-reflection. Hillary is still blaming the voters for losing what was the biggest open-goal election in history. FFS, have some humility.

I obviously don't know the true feeling in America - but i think Trump will win

I think it's a little like our GE 2019... loads of 'silent tories' - hence the huge majority

I think you're right. Polling won't tell us the story. There are many people who, if they have sense, will be far to embarrassed to admit they vote for Trump. They'll vote for him anyway.

This is typical of the patronising attitude that pervades the Left nowadays, the attitude that lost Hillary the election, that lost the Brexit vote, that lost the last general election.
"We're more intelligent than you", "You should be ashamed of how you vote", "You're just ignorant fools"
It's never worked and it never will, it just hardens positions.
Maybe try to understand why people vote this way and provide arguments that they understand to change some of their minds.

Trump is what he is.
Biden is likely to die before he gets a full sentence out. He could be in my Mother’s dementia home.
How on earth could the Democrats arrive at him as the best alternative.
Shocking state over there.

It was vitally important to them to ensure that they didn't have a socialist candidate. So important they're happy to throw the election and give Trump another 4 years. Just like the PLP over here.

nonsense fella, he won through the intricacies of the electoral system, massive amounts of money pumped into disenfranchising people in those battle ground states, smear campaigns and building a brand. All enabled by big data and social media. It was nothing to do with the right being stupid, although plenty are.

Ah the new argument that its the fault of those on the left that people vote for vile lying RWNJ,s , and they should not have the audacity to point out the flaws.
The simple fact is more people than we thought share their views, many wont admit it but once in the privicy polling booth they vote them in .
The mess both the USA and the UK find themselves in politically is solely down to those that voted them in.
As we are seeing with johnson those on the right will blame anyone but themselves.

Compare and contrast with the intelligence and moderate reasoning of this man. How far a nation can fall...

Politicians like Obama are the reason we have politicians like Trump. Swallows up all the enthusiasm in the electorate by telling them they're voting for a "change" and then completely demoralising them with the reality.

Let's take them one at a time....
Intricacies of the electoral system - there for both parties to use to their advantage
Massive amounts of money pumped into disenfranchising people in those battle ground states - by whom ? They'd had 8 years of Obama prior to Trump
Smear campaigns - what, you mean like Russiagate which turns out to be have been fabricated
Building a brand - the right know how to do this all right, maybe the Left should try it

elements of truth to that, I would also point out that dictators tend to follow prolonged periods of financial failure. The depression of the 20s and 30s led to populism in Germany for example and destroyed a strong democracy in a matter of years. The impact of the last financial crash and austerity and failure of certain industries was paramount to Trump, far more so than Obama

the non-socialist decision was to attract the middle ground because you need their vote toe be electable....just like with Starmer over here.

Sounds great. Worked for Brown, Miliband, Clinton, Remain... Oh well, definitely will work for Starmer and Biden. (y)
