Mushrooms

I’ve jamie Oliver with a mushroom before it was quite chunky, might if been a beef mushroom. It looked like it could be a meat substitute

was out walking in chopwell woods last week and there were a few people out foraging, loads of them all over the place, proper big 'uns too.

edit - cant eat them though, way too 'slimey'

I live not far from Chopwell Woods and it was teeming with them a couple of weeks back, got some great pics!

Where have you been looking Scuba. The nearest place to you I've seen good ones is Dalby forest.
There are loads of good places around my area mate, any of the places with forestry really. Found plenty in a forest down in Wheeldale (on the back road to Pickering), the most I've seen so far were in the forest down at Levisham though, where they have the NYMR station. Big groups of them, at least ten in one of them. Amazing to look at, I don't like getting too close up though even to take a photo with my phone, they freak me out a bit and have done ever since childhood 🤣

Love them in stir fries or fried breakfast / omelettes etc👍

That said tinned mushrooms are an absolute no no😕. The devil's work!!! Just remind me of school dinners in the 80s (don't get me started on tinned potatoes).

Cowbank woods, north of Carlton ( the one east of helmsley) is covered in different varieties at the moment.
My neighbour ( a retired biologist) is terrific company on walks as she can identify them all and the side effects including descriptive death and the various " trips" available, she assures me the trip descriptions come from her student days only. 😜

Within an hour of having a mushroom ( that I love!) I can feel the tingling of gout. A portion would bring on a full bout. I just avoid them totally.
Before I developed gout I once had the pleasure of a plate of village mushrooms in Greece, My dreams where the most vivid If ever had, like Fantasia in full on Technicolour.
Just a memory now.

Wow. First time I've heard mushrooms as a trigger. The only thing I know for sure triggers mine are cherries. Why is it always the stuff you really like?

As for mushrooms, I'm not that bothered about them generally, but they are essential to at bring out the full flavour of a steak.

I use cherries as an inhibitor!, The juice is recomended for gout they have a natural anti inflammatory effect, are You saying cherries bring your gout on??
yeast is a trigger ,Mushrooms are a fungi, similar to a yeast, Bread , marmite and beer can be trigger also. However fortunately beer doesn't trigger any attack ( although I dont drink as much as I used to)
