Contact tracing app relaunch

I'm.having to use the app to take my daughter to her swimming lesson on Friday so will be downloading it.

It's really only there and the school run that I've frequented publicly past few weeks so I'll use it for those two trips.

do the right thing.....use the app.
Boris - you do the right thing and sack Cummings, apologise for not doing so earlier and I’ll also do the right thing 👍.
The latter will have to happen before I'd be comfortable using the former.

I'm not really happy that someone who get this power from harvesting our data is getting more chances to do it

ST I have had a look at the app architecture and it is safe to download in terms of your personal data. I am sure it could be hacked, I am also sure this government don't employ anyone bright enough to hack it.

ST it does go to a central server and is stored for 14 days, however your phone creates an anonymous key and your data is stored against that key.

If your key is associated with an outbreak the key is used to notify your phone. At no point does the server know who's phone it is pinging.

As I said I can see ways of hacking this or using the data unscrupulously but it is always anonymous.

For example, the data could be used when you are out to push a notification to your phone about a McDonalds offer as you walk past McDonalds. It would still be anonymous and not a very subtle misuse of your data.

Only seems to work if you have your Bluetooth turned on as I keep getting a notification on my android phone telling me to turn the Bluetooth on to let the app work.
So I'll just turn it on when required to do so, stops any evil Russians or Chinese spying on me 😜

Cummings wants all sheep to download it ASAP please.
Crack on
Once we are truly all in this together will I download and use.
Cummings go and demonstrate we are all in this together because you know we are not.
👍👍👍👍

Yeah, that'll get the country through the pandemic.

Stop going on about something that happened 6 months ago, trying to score political points and do your bit. You;ll be the 1st on here moaning about its failings due to lack of uptake also

I have just downloaded albeit tentatively, hopefully it is robust and does the intended job. Hopefully the more that do can only help the situation.

Downloaded and installed it this morning.
As said above, it's much more privacy focused than the original and so less onerous to use.

I've downloaded it and put the notifications on.

Hopefully at some point it will tell me to isolate for 6 months from our lass

I feel sure everybody who is downloading is aware that the false positive notification ratio
is 1 in 3. Hate to think that thousands and then millions will be self isolating due to a gash phone app.

The phone app isn't gash, it performs about as well as any mobile app out there performing the same functions. It has some very complex functionality and is using bluetooth and GPS in a manner they were not intended for, and does it about as well as can be expected.

My local has just broadcast that they have installed the QR code on the door, no app no access.
And so it begins, you poor misguided people thought this was about public health !!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks L , very comforting.

“And so it begins” if you are not aware that anything this app will do has probably being going on for years If you are a mobile phone owner - whilst misuse of data is undoubtedly a problem I’m not so sure this one app is going to change that situation greatly. Facts of the matter are in this modern world if you own a mobile phone someone somewhere is taking advantage of that fact for monetary & political gain.
