Work from home if you can

2 weeks ago we were lazy for WFH, more likely to be sacked and the sole cause of the nations economic problems

Who would have thought pushing people back into crowded offices, on crowded busses/trains etc would cause issues mid pandemic?
Exactly, what about the footfall in town centres and the small town centre businesses losing trade?

Looks like I'll have to continue being "less productive" for a while longer then. As we were told last week we'd have 2 desks for 30 people I wasn't really expecting to be returning anyway.

Obviously the right call, but Jesus wept, how long does it take this shower to come to right conclusion? The incompetence is one thing but it's compounded by a ridiculous amount of dithering. Is it because no-one other than Cummings is allowed to make a decision anymore? Or is it just no-one can ever find Boris?

Obviously all the people who can WFH can afford to take a pay cut since you are no longer need to spend money commuting. I’m sure your employees will think the same come your next review or pay rise. Also you might have to pay more tax for the 10 million people who can’t WFH so they can get their benefits.

It's WFH if you can. If you can't you can still work.

And yes, those of us who can are fortunate. But it's not only benefitting us as if it slows the spread of the virus, which it should, it then reduces the risk for those who can't WFH.

How is that going to work? Oh you live 10 miles away so you take this much of a cut, yet you live 30 miles away so you take a bit more of a cut. Also what about the increase in electricity usage of people working from home. Are you going to factor that in?

Fortunately it seems the vast majority of employers ignored spaffer's waffle about getting people back into the office, imagine the increase in cases now if people had followed his advice.

Thankfully we've been set up to WFH in my industry (digital marketing) for years. I was doing 2 or 3 days WFH before COVID, and have only been back into the office once since March. Didn't particularly enjoy it to be honest, everything they can do they've done - spaced out desks, one way systems, loads of sanitisers etc - but some people just take no notice of the social distancing guidelines.

I'm in a brilliant WFH routine and have been more productive than ever throughout lockdown, office is minimum 1 hour drive each way so saving minimum 2 hours commuting a day, so I think even when (if?!) things return to normality, I'll continue doing what I'm doing.

The impact of WFH will be huge if its done long term, the environmental impact of sitting in traffic every day is massive considering most office jobs have had the technology to WFH for years and just not done it. Plus health benefits of being able to eat properly must be massive.
If it wasnt that too many tory backers will loose out financially with no need for city office space, we would have done this years ago.

I was last in the office mid-March - then furloughed - now flexi Furlough. I can't see any return to the office until next year, that's if I'm still in a job when the furlough ends. There may be trouble ahead!!!!!!

Employers dont calculate someone wages against their outgoings. Also tax is calculated via salary, not how good/bad your working location is.

We’re actually saving them money, in fact I want a heating allowance of them, our bills will go up because of this, this winter.

I miss the office, but not the commute! WFH is working well for me, but hope we can get back to working from the office at some point. But it won't be the same as before when we do, much more flexible and days WFH more often i reckon.
