Care Homes..............have we learnt nothing

It would seem nor Asred, it isn't just Middlesbrough either, right across England that is the government directive. Compare with Scotland where a patient has to have had 2 negative tests before they are discharged to care homes.

This is criminal.

I know it is a horrible thought but I can help but think it is a political move. If covid sweeps through the care home sector, it will reduce the care and pension bill, also deals with all the issues of bed blocking etc.

Smog, I think the truth is much simpler than that. The NHS did not cope last winter without covid, remember the pictures of children laid on ward floors because of lack of beds?

The only way the NHS can hope to cope is to turn around beds quickly. The largest portion of seriously ill patients will be the elderly, lots of whom live in care homes. So to empty the beds, discharge them back to their care homes.

Every government has always known that the NHS is sacrosanct, and people are prepared to vote for tax cutting tories provided they are not slapped in the face with the consequence of their actions, i.e. the NHS overwhelmed. That image is one that would see Johnson out of no 10 very quickly.

I worked in a local mental health nursing home until a few weeks ago. I was rang by someone from our council to let me know that we could expect patients from the covid ward to open up some beds in JCH.
I explained that we were a mental health unit and was told it didn't matter. I told her we had no beds (which was true) but if we did have I would not allow the admission without assessment from our staff and as no one was allowed to visit the ward that could not happen. She was not happy even when I explained our patients had very little if any understanding of what social distancing was . 7 months since the start of lockdown and not one patient or staff member have been tested despite requests.
We were sent test kits but the same day we received an e mail saying don't use them as they do not work.
Its a pathetic mess .

I hope you are right: I dont want to see one patient discharged too early [whilst they are not fully recovered and shipped out due to "pressure of beds"].
We also have to feel for the care staff and clinicians in all those places where our people are receiving care.
I feel for those who remain isolated in places without friends, relatives or a support network.

At least these b*****s show their true colours.
Its taken us to get this far before people are finally awoken to what they put in power!
Positive leadership amongst us will steer away from fascists, racists, populist, jingoists and people will show their true caring and compassionate natures like we did early covid.
Pack your bags Johnson.
Starmer - get out your suit and lets see what you are going to do to provide a real alternative!

Here is what is going on in my autonomous region of Spain (Andalucía)...

"Likewise, tests will be carried out on the income and return of users and workers 48 hours prior to their entry."

"Rapid antigen tests in residential centers for the elderly and disability
This is the fifth round of tests carried out in residences throughout Andalusia
The Ministry of Health and Families begins to apply rapid antigen tests in homes for the elderly and disability throughout Andalusia. Likewise, the Minister of Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, has announced this new measure “which will constitute a fundamental tool to contain the spread of the virus thanks to its high level of effectiveness and speed since it allows detecting a virus protein at the current moment and its results are obtained in just 15 minutes ”.
Accompanied by the general director of Social and Health Care, José Repiso, the counselor stressed that "the vocation of the Ministry is to continue prioritizing residences for the elderly and disabled as a space of vulnerability."
Counselor Jesús Aguirre has added that “this type of test will allow a systematic screening in the population that is proving to be more fragile against the virus, for this reason we maintain our commitment to continue carrying out antigen tests with a frequency that allows us know the situation of the social health centers ”.
Random in residents of each center
Specifically, systematic tests will be carried out on workers in each center who have not had a Covid-19 infection in the previous 6 months; In the event of any positive, the test will be performed on all residents. Independently, a random screening of residents of each center who have not had the disease in the last 6 months will also be carried out. Likewise, tests will be carried out on the income and return of users and workers 48 hours prior to their entry.
Rapid antigen tests allow the substitution of PCR tests for their similar guarantee in the diagnostic determination of COVID-19. The sample is obtained through a swab inserted through the nose with the advantage that it does not require reading instruments, so it can be performed outside the laboratory. Andalusia has a stock of one million of these tests."

Spoke to a couple of nurses I know at the weekend. One a friend of my sister who works in an operating theatre in Kent. She has only been tested once and that was pre lock down. The other works at Northallerton Hospital. She has never been tested. Its frightening that they are working with ill people and they are not tested. The one from the Northallerton as only been to a pub twice since lock down started as she is terrified that she could pick up Covid up and pass it on to vulnerable people.
This is a disgrace and every time Hancock comes on a tells us that NHS staff and Care workers are been tested weekly it makes me want to smash the TV.
