E- Scooter Pilot Suspended in Coventry

Wasn't suspended in Teesside as Houchen's mate and Southern Tory councillor owns the ones chosen by Houchen for our area..

You are talking about Paul Hodgins from Ginger. He is a Richmond councillor. Anybody had any experience of using them?

Personally, I don’t see the point in them. Kids riding them irresponsibly, there’s a surprise. Always going to happen. We were all young once!

We need a variety of transport methods in our towns and city centres. There are always teething issues and most of these can be ironed out with better processes.

There's a thing in this country with vandalism though.

We do need to restructure our inner city transport policy. In Germany e- scooters schemes work very well and the trick is to ensure there is a good cycleway network in place. Riding them on pavements is a no no and it is pretty much universally adhered to.

Reminds me when in Geordie land they got these weBikes (sp?) a communal bike scheme and half just ended up in the Tyne. Long running joke at work was they were the no1 Christmas present in Byker/Walker that year with the trackers bashed off. Was a Chinese company who ran it and pulled out v sharpish!

Me and my daughter have normal push along scooters. We normally go along the coast roads. Keeping to ourselves, the other night in Redcar, we had some typical chav rats going beside us shouting "ere chore, these are what u want, not them stupid push ones. Anyway as we got near the stray cafe, said chavs had dumped them on the grass, surely they must have to pay for them to be put back in said area

The trial of electric scooters has been put on hold in Coventry after just a few days as users have been abusing the system. Riding them on pavements through pedestrians, dumping them anywhere etc.

Why is it that we can’t do anything properly without some wazzocks just acting like irresponsible morons.
I'm afraid until we start educating people to just think & consider others & take respinsibities then we'll never move on with anything when it needs everyone to pull in the same direction, too many I'm alright Jacks in this world

Absolutely Erimus74. The trouble is some of these ’I’m all right jacks’ are well educated and do know better. Selflessness is something that is in very short supply amongst the masses. Far too many people talk the talk, but only walk the walk when it suits. Give most people an inch and they’ll take a yard is a sad truism.

Agreed.
If we worked on the basis of "abuse" and misuse of transport - parking on pavements / speeding / causing accidents .......the car would be out of the question as a costly experiment.

Morning Col.
It starts at the top:
Leadership by example from the front.
Politicians lack the balls to go against the grain to do what is right.
We need to accept short term inconvenience to affect positive long-term change(y)

I’d add a bit to that in that great leadership can foster a community spirit whereby people look out for each other and are respectful. In that world Most people don’t ride scooters on pavements and dump them anywhere.
I’ve used them in other countries and they are both convenient and fun for travelling short journeys.

Sadly our leaders have created a divisive and selfish culture leading to the behaviours described on here.
It’s getting worse before our very eyes too.

I agree r00fie1. I am fed up of hearing Cummings trip to Durham being quoted. It gave some fellow idiots a get out response even though they should know better. Local lockdowns or restrictions (whatever people choose to call them) should give a wake up call to people to use their common sense and limit their mixing and socialising in communities, yet here we are people going to pubs, restaurants, sporting events and people still think its fine as they ‘always’ behave responsibly. People seem to think 2M = 12 inches unfortunately. Like I said, people say one thing but do what suits them in reality. I do not get why some seem to think its ok to carry on as normal just because their personal risk is low. At best, they are offerIng to play host to the virus so it can move on to potentially kill or seriously injure someone they inadvertently cross paths with. Hey ho!

Agreed.
Great leaders are not afraid of failure or set backs.
Without challenges we would never learn to lead.

Where I live, you can expect a near-miss with an electric scooter every time you go out.
Just been reading about the e-scooter trial in M'bro. People using them on the A19, and kids riding with passengers! A wise choice.
