I know the gazette had a few articles on it but after reading them I still can’t see any reason why we are not included.

Our rate is higher Than many of those areas included, we are on the list of Govt concern and yet we seem to be a special case.

the gist of the gazette article seemed to be the reason that we are not in lockdown is because....well we aren’t.

Because we're officially not wanted - North Yorkshire don't want us and now the other North East regions don't either

Oh well People's Republic of Teesside it is !!!!!! :p:p

No income tax... no VAT

I think maybe it’s based on the data below rather then labour or Tory controlled areas. The Tees valley numbers seem to be coming down whilst the rest of the Northeast is rising ( might only be a temporary reprieve)

This is the current infection rate in your area - based on data published between September 7 and September 14.
South Tyneside 93.4 cases per 100,000 people (was 60.9)
Gateshead 83.6 cases per 100,000 (was 63.3)
Sunderland 75.3 cases per 100,000 (was 88.2)
Newcastle upon Tyne 67.4 cases per 100,000 (was 57.1)
North Tyneside 45.2 cases per 100,000 (was 42.8)
Hartlepool 43.8 cases per 100,000 (was 58.7)
County Durham 38.9 cases per 100,000 (was 36.6)
Middlesbrough 34.0 cases per 100,000 (was 47.5)
Stockton-on-Tees 25.3 cases per 100,000 (was 26.9)
Darlington 23.4 cases per 100,000 (was 17.8)
Redcar and Cleveland 16.0 cases per 100,000 (was 29.2)

I'm in North Tyneside and we're hearing that the councils up here saw overall figures rising, anticipated the possibility of being shutdown so got together as a collective to ask the government to impose further restrictions, in which case there is a tranche of funding available to help, whereas they wouldn't have got it if we had just been part of a nationwide thing, government-led. Don't know if it's true but if it is, then perhaps Middlesbrough, R&C etc have missed out on much needed funds?

It does look like it’s a fund raising thing to free up some funds.

We are like the black sheep of the family when it comes to the North area. Or is it because we're not a city. Or maybe because we think we are immune to it

Our councils requested to be excluded from the restrictions according to Ben Houchen (Tees Valley Mayor).

Here's his quotes:
"the tees valley councils asked not to be included, which is why they haven’t been"

"they said that they think they have it under control and that they hope numbers will stabilise in coming days. Asked Govt to give them a chance to show this without a lockdown. That’s what I’m told"

Interesting discussion this as Teesside is very much NE England. Tory metro mayor maybe a factor but also notice Nick Forbes (Newc council leader) begging for this lockdown for the last week or so. Didn't know about the funding aspect actually but makes sense did wonder why he was so keen for an economy killer (bars tonight are dead apparently). Don't think councils in Greater Manchester had the option whether to be included in lockdown or not but looks like West Yorkshire conurbations are next to succumb.

The funding issue does make sense then I guess. I remember watching the ITV equivalent of Look Geordie the other night and was baffled as to why the council chiefs were asking for a lockdown, considering the obvious blow to the economy.

Answers the fundamental question then this.

I’m glad we’re trying , I know people still have concerns but there will always be a point when we need to push on .

They are maybe all sat around using the 'is Leeds a derby' debate. Thus classing is as Yorkshire. That or all the people making the decision are Geordies and saying 'Boro isn't a a derby' therfore we ain't in the North East😂

Sadly that’s not true As they admitted hartlepool was on the initial Govt lockdown
List but They argued their way out of it.
Someone just showed you that figures in Middlesbrough and Redcar are declining which gives sufficient reason why some areas are locking down and others aren’t
