Eat out to spread the virus scheme

It's the selfish, idiots that have escalated this virus, you can blame the government as much as you want to, but if people can't take responsibilities then I'm afraid we're in this for the long haul
Any competent government would have anticipated this and planned accordingly. They would have made a sufficient number of tests available, along with an effective track and trace in place before easing lock down - surely? It was entirely predictable that the public would respond in different ways and I’m afraid the Gov’s response was entirely predictable - incompetent and shifting of blame.

You can’t say the government is faultless in all of this. Irresponsible people are partly to blame but in the main the government have been a catalyst to what we see now.

Britain is a proud country. It used to be. We used to being one of the best in the world. We have been pretty diabolical in our standards using companies that have failed time and time again previously to help with the pandemic

airports around the world people are being tested when they land. Other countries have a consistent track trace and isolate. We’re more slack, brace, facilitate

I agree people have to take responsibility for their own actions, but many are, and they are saying “I don’t care if I get it” or they don’t understand why they should wear a mask etc (they were told not to for a long time). I think the government’s leadership has been confused and poor, and that hasn’t helped anyone make any decisions.

I only know 2 ppl who used it, when you saw video and pics of Sushak promoting it serving meals at tables in a fairly crowded restaurant without face covering and without gloves and a covidiot smile on his face it just summed up the ignorance of those in power about the whole pandemic like Johnson's handshaking, Hancocks lack of social distancing in the HOC, Raab licking his fingers between turning pages of his speech, Williamson taking his mask off to shake hands etc. They're clueless at everything besides culling the population and fiddling the stats.
Dominic has been conspicuous by his absence as well hasn’t he.

I'm not saying that at all, my issue is with the countless people who continually to think of themselves, people continue to just blame the government, yes they've done massively wrong that is no doubt, but the general public need to step up too

We could lockdown until after Xmas and it would still come back when we open up again. Until we get a vaccine it's with us for ever.

You could argue that even with a vaccine people will still get it. How long will it take to roll out for the whole country? Years!! It will be key workers and old folk first. The demand will far out way supply.

We can't all meltdown and blame the government everytime it spikes. We can't just full lockdown until it 'goes'.

It was obvious that it would massively spike as soon as pubs/shops/restaurants/protests etc started up again. I was at the gym this morning... Can't think of many worse places to be open.

It’s a virus. It spreads.
You can stay in doors as long as you want but, unless you have a vaccine, it will continue to be there when you come out.
It doesn’t go round the houses and say ‘bahhhh, no one is out on the streets, I’m off to france’,
I think someone said something similar yesterday about pubs need to close at 10 before the virus appears.

No virus around before 10.

A half baked lockdown was totally pointless when thousands of carriers were admitted back into the country with zero testing or quarantine.
Lobbing Covid grenades into care homes was obviously a bad idea unless it was phase 1of the Boris social care plan.
Protecting the NHS from having to do the job it was purposed to do was bizarre and I suspect it was about avoiding embarrassment for the government as years of under investment came to a head.
Still it all took the pressure of BJ as he delivered his easiest trade deal in the history of the world.
World beating 4r5eholes in charge have done more damage than Covid might have done unchecked.

"Protect the NHS " they tell us.
No, that's your job, government, by funding it properly.
Shifting the blame as usual.

Like everything else the government does it's not necessarily the broad idea of supporting pubs and restaurants that was the problem, it was the fact it was lazily thought through and implemented.

For every restaurant that insisted on contact details and applied very strict social distancing measures there'll have been one that only paid lip service to it. Obviously no enforcement of any kind. They were left to their own devices.

On top of that the government messaging has been atrocious. And even the confused messaging they have put out has been critically undermined by the whole Cummings debacle where they effectively stuck two fingers up to the country.

Christ, they can't even do social distancing correctly in parliament. The message: "it doesn't really matter".

I have gone for several meals (not in the scheme) and a couple of coffees (sat outside) since the Virus came, but tried to reduce what I would normally do. What the alternative become cocooned at home avoiding the small chance of catching the virus and then the small chance of dying if caught.

What was wrong was when people were going out every day to eat when the scheme was on, some going more then once a day. It was about doing things in moderation.

Typical tory I'm alright Jack sod the rest selfish mentality example right there folks.

Remember it's not just about you it's about everybody.

Prik

Please note the forum rules. You were against the scheme from the start despite many poster both left and right explaining to you what the purpose was. It was an excellent initiative to give a boost to the service industry. Without it many would have gone under, leaving more unemployed.

You cant lockdown this industry it needs people to eat out to keep it going. You maybe are happy to see alot of businesses go under causing bigger unemployment. Instead of insulting people and complaining from afar on here. Seek out some businesses who took part in the scheme and their employees and ask their opinion, i suspect you wont

Yep agree with all of this. It was the right thing to do to keep businesses open, but it wasn't backed up by the necessary test and trace capabilities. And most places were still taking a hit as they couldn't operate at full capacity. The sequencing of measures has been so hit and miss throughout so you just get this muddle which culminates in a second lockdown.
