North East to London commute

Anyone done this for any length of time? Maybe 1 day a week - 2 max. Think 1 day a week may be doable. Train there and back in a day.

Very tiring I would imagine particularly if you need to put in a full shift while you're there.

Couldn't be bothered for 1 day a week, if it was 2 (or more) days a week working then maybe. I.E. travel down on a tuesday, work, stay over, work all day weds and then train back in the evening.

It starts to get expensive then with accommodation and may not be worth it.

I'm currently wfh until April next year but I've decided to move back to the north east. I wouldn't mind keeping my current job but don't know what the working environment is going to look like post April 2021. I was thinking of maybe proposing 1 day a week in the office. Not sure my boss will go for it.

Great to get a London Salary with Inner London Weighting and living and working in a £135k house, mortgage soon paid off, sandy beach walk in the evening and morning, lunch under Roseberry Topping or by the River Leven in Great Ayton. While someone in London doing the same job has to be pay £2500 a month mortgage for a cramped 1 bed flat with no outdoor space leaving them with £400 a month to live on. What's a 1 day a week trip going to cost £60 per week? (if booked ahead). The London weighting would pay for that.

If someone is working from home, does it matter where they are as long as the internet connection is good.

Guess an alternative would be to move jobs while still in London to a place that is more wfh friendly - then move up north

If you can WFH then can you WFTrain too? See if you can negotiate later start/earlier finish.

6:00am Darlington to Kings Cross 30 min walk to office. 18:00 from KK Darlington 20:30 Home by 21:00 Did this one day a week for about 4 months last year. Was not too bad most times trains were on time. Can work on laptop on train. Not done it this year and worked from home. Maybe this will be the way forward in future.

The train fare must have been steep?

Wouldn't fancy the 4 hours in a mask at the moment.
Take food and drink and you can remove the mask. I've just done a trip on LNER today and, having never worn a mask more than 20 minutes so far, I found 3 hours no worse. And, you could invest in a visor.

Wait till the elon musk hyperloop is built on the uk. Be in london in ten mins or so from the north. That's the future I reckon anyways

I did a Tuesday to Thursday in the office for around 6 months 2 years ago. After coughing up £40/£50 a night for Paddington fleapits tried out the YHA and it worked out brilliant.

Used to use the Tuesday journey down as extra sleeping time.
