That’s me off

Have fun Norm! Before you go, can you just clarify whether or not you'll be watching any live football? You've not really mentioned it this last few weeks. :)

Interested to hear from those of you in France what the new restrictions imposed yesterday in the face of fresh French outbreaks particularly in Brittany have on your holidays/lives out there

In fairness I was very impressed with the French prior to the compulsory he of masks.
Last week, those who worked in shops and restaurants were all wearing masks - made you feel very safe.
Hand sanitiser is everywhere too.
It is day two of the new law an most are being very vigilant - won’t let you in without a mask. It takes some doing to remember every time you go out you must take your mask.
A number of smaller stores do have masks available to buy just before you enter - 50c.

We popped up to the local village shop today for a bread and a few bits and forgot our masks. As we are in the middle of nowhere it wasn’t a problem.
We are in SW France but can only assume they are as vigilant everywhere else.

Living in both Touraine and Normandy at the moment and the situation is similar to as finny describes. Popped into a garage and supermarket this morning and saw nobody without a mask. We, along with many other people have always worn a mask in enclosed spaces anyway, it's just common-sense. One thing I was impressed with here right at the beginning of the outbreak and before confinement, was the proportion of young people wearing masks. I really expected very few to wear them so was pleasantly surprised, perhaps I shouldn't have been.

I would say 99% of people are wearing masks in shops, markets, etc, but not so much in cafes and restaurants for obvious reasons. All the staff in the above mentioned are wearing masks and on the entrances it says they are obligatory.

The weather makes wearing them a little difficult, but other than that, it is not a problem.

I did get a shock though at the lack of social distancing in the service stations when travelling down. This was more down to the different number of nationalities at them and the mixed messages from different governments.

Arrived at Niort around 4.39pm and had a reasonable drive down. Queuing traffic at Tours near pierrequiroule house 😜. I think cars slowed down to see if they could catch a glimpse of him. Anyway, he was elusive and only beautiful country could be seen.
Ah Niort, visited there many moons ago (35 to be precise) whilst on holiday near Bressuire in Deux-Sevres. My overriding memory is visiting the forest of Mervent and eating at a small auberge where we ordered a bottle of the local vin, the appropriately named Pissotte Blanc. Oh how we laughed.

I arrived in the canaries a week ago, will stay for about a month. Masks worn in shops by 100% of people, but as a result social distancing is 0% not sure it’s an improvement. Bars restaurants 20% open, but most seem to be geeking up.

overall though feels safe and more ‘normal’ than the UK. Blöödy hot though.

You cycling out there Ingleby?

Too hot this time of year, though I normally do. I’ve only done mtb over here, but the roads look great for it. Doing loads of walkin, in fact I‘m off out soon (y)

I can't remember if you've mentioned your having trouble remembering before?😎

Still here in France - Someone mentioned that the government are considering putting France on the list to isolate when we return, is there any truth in that.

The campsites picked up over the last week and a lot more people staying on it. Tohapi are offering deals for 2, 3 & 5 night stays in their mobile homes and Tents and it seems like a lot of the French are taking advantage of it. The towns picked up but social distancing still being adhered to and we haven’t been back to the plage due to the streets leading up to it being hectic.

We’ve been for plenty of meals, the odd beer at the local bar tabac and coffee and croissants. We are enjoying the sun round the lake, been out on the boat every other day and out on my mountain bike in the forest. The weathers been brilliant and too hot at times for me to sit out in or do anything.

We both feel safe enough and are just common sense when out and about. Masks are compulsory in all indoor places.

We’ve got three weeks left before we return and both feel totally relaxed.

I don't think anybody has any idea what this government will do next, so expect the unexpected. Slightly cynical I know, but I do wonder if it is not part of government strategy to give the impression that other countries are doing worse than the UK. I know where I feel safest.

This Guardian piece doesn't really offer any answer either.

I said that to the brother in law regarding making them look good.

Still here in the Canaries, nearly a month in, the UK govt still want us to quarantine when we go home, even though there is no risk here. Might just have to stay, only problem is it’s too hot to do the walking and biking I’d like to, but.........happy days.

Bit concerned about my season ticket situation.

Spot on Pierre, I need to drive over to Redcar to see my parents but I’m putting it off because if the clowns impose quarantine regs on France then the French government will just say eff you lot and reciprocat.

Well that is the holiday about over. The caravan is tucked away for another year and I am presently sat in a hotel room in Alencon waiting for the wife to get ready and then we are going out for a meal. We travelled up today from Mimizan and the traffic near Arachon was a ball ache once again. The rest of the drive wasn't too bad.

I was able to look at a few areas for houses and cross one or two off the list. Travelling the rest of the journey tomorrow and should be back on Teesside tomorrow night and then it is 14 days isolation.

We used to live around the Vimoutiers area, absolutely beautiful. I personally could move back in a heartbeat.
