And what message would London electing an islamophobic mayor send?

Giving Labour a bloody nose might send them a message. It also unfortunately emboldens the racists and the fascists.

I don't know what the answer is, but I can't imagine most Muslims wanting to send a message are happy for the price to be the legitimising of islamophobic views.

But this is the problem with trying to convince people that the other option is worse instead of actively being better.

Labour have had ample opportunity to engage with the people they need to vote for them and they've decided to pursue people that 'might' vote for them if everything lines up correctly.

If giving Labour a bloody nose is what it takes to force a rethink then it might be preferable in the long run. We keep being told to hold our noses because Labour are playing the long game - it looks as though that wasn't what was actually happening.

Certainly with the Tees Valley Mayor the low turnout shows that people lacked engagement. If you can't convince people there's something worth voting for then everything else is pointless.
