Howson 'can't see any reason' why a new contract won't be agreed

No way on earth he won't be offered another one.

It's funny how this exact situation has been going for 3 years now. I'm amazed he's not penned one yet.

Keep a close eye out against Watford. If he's walking around post match with kids and crying he's off 😭😂
 
Potentially great news. I'd offer Jonny a 2 or 3 year deal, with £XXXXXX whilst he's playing, that switches to £XXX if he retires but stays at the club in a coaching capacity.
 
He is still a good player but we have been trying to replace him for years. I really hope we find someone this summer because we can't be in this position again next year. He'll be 36 by the start of next season and he can't go on forever.

I think we can find a much better all round player as well, as good as Howson has been. We are crying out for someone that can do what he does on the ball but has a bit more bite and aggression on the defensive side of things. Someone like Boateng would be the ideal player for that position and it frees Hackney up a bit more on the other side.
 
Rolling 1 year deals is definitely the right way to go with Howson, I'd say, especially when he's comfortable with it.

We keep expecting him to drop off or pick up a serious injury, but he largely keeps avoiding it every season, that won't last forever though.

He's 36 in 3 weeks, having him tied down for longer is a risk that I don't think the club needs to take.

I don't think there is personally.

At this level he's still one of the best in the business, easily.
 
Like Howson but if there is a place for him it must be in a smaller, supporting role.

It also needs to be on less money to free up resource for his long term replacement.

If he’s happy with that then sign him up!
