I joined the twitching world this morning for the first time.
Got to a bird hide at Rutland water for 7.30 to look for the Ospreys.

It was chuffin freezing.
The reward was seeing one if flight, catching a fish and posing in clear view for quite some time.

The whole experience was just wonderful

agreed, they are great. I have osprey nest cam on my tv most of the day, most pairs have eggs now. fascinating birds.

Think it might be an age thing
I’m 66
I’ve got memories, from my youth, of nature shows discussing the dwindling Osprey population and the plans to save them.
Some horror stories shown of smashed eggs come to mind.

Always wanted to see one in the wild - and have now done it.

Once saw a Golden Eagle/Osprey cross breed...👍

Well it certainly looked like one....
I identified it as a Gosprey 👍

Absolutely the same here. Secret nest locations to thwart egg collectors made them seem like a bird I'd never see in my lifetime.

Didn't Newy spot a Golden Eagle over Park end?
😲
There’s one, possibly a pair knocks around over the village of Dacre, saw it last year, I couldn’t have identified it but an elderly couple did and pointed it out to me.

Was once cycling past Hurworth Burn reservoir and there was a load of twitchers watching a great big bird circling, I asked them what it was - the look of disgust I got for not knowing it was an Osprey.

I’ve tried for years to see one catching a fish without any luck - i shall try again up at Bassenthwaite soon

A couple of mates went to a hide up in Glencoe last week. They’re nesting over a fish farm so there’s an abundance of fish. They got some cracking photos .
